Will be a milestone?

The decision to make a (CCR!) rig for recreational diver represent a brave choiche. I hope a great success from this point of view. The technical feature are, anyway, revolutionary.
Hope that the previous flop of SCR recreational rebreathers like Draeger and FIENO was own by the limitations of SCR systems and the high cost at the time were launched on the market

Re: Will be a milestone?

Well, the Jetam Sport Kiss has been fairly successfully marketed for recreational diving (compared to other CCRs, anyway).

To some extend other units are used for "recreational" diving, too, Evos, PRISMs, etc, and if you think of it,
all MOD1 or similar training (that I'm aware of) limits and certifies to recreational limits.

While the electronics/ features may be groundbreaking, they also mean that the unit won't grow with the diver.

And I wouldn't call several thousand Dräger Dolphins a flop, either.
Save for AP and maybe Carleton I'm not aware of any manufacturer having sold near as many units.

Time will tell if it will be a milestone, if it works it certainly should be both that and a success.

Re: Will be a milestone?

What exactly do you mean by "Recreational?" Do you mean sport diving as opposed to technical, because both fall into recreational diving. If it ain't commercial, scientific, military or public safety, it's recreational.

Have to agree with some of Caveseeker's points... The real test of a 'simple' unit aimed at the sport market is going to be whether or not sport agencies (SDI, PADI, SSI, NAUI, et al) sanction training programs...

Re:

I believe recreational translates into max depth 40 m and no overhead environment, including deco.

I already mentioned the PADI CCR Resort course ...
that would not just be a milesone, it could replace cement shoes in NY and NJ!

You are right, not just a flop, but of course the project was developed thinking at far greater numbers.
Recreational may mean no stop nitrox diver, of course not the "tropical tourist reefwatching diver"
