Sony P150 Setup

Hi Guys,
Could I ask you chaps for some advice please. I have a Sony P150 point and shoot that I use for Rec dives, I have previously been using it in Cyprus and have had no problems with the good viz and have been happy with the pics.
I've now moved back to the UK and using it in the dark green waters of sunny england my pictures are crap!! My question is basicly - How do i set up the camera for these waters? I use a 10w hid and have experimented using that to light up the area/diver i'm photographing but all the pictures are very dark. Is there a settin within the camera that will help matters?
Many thanks,
Lewis

Re: Sony P150 Setup

Hello Lewis,

When you use your HID light the camera's metering program decides that you have too many light on that specific part of the picture, so in order not to burn the picture it changes that values of shutter speed accordinly.

It is not a problem. This is the way the digital cameras works on AUTO (P) mode. They try to work on the average light the scene has.

On dpreview says that the camera has
• Spot & Multi-pattern metering
• Live Histogram

Play outside the water with spot metering. It is difficult to use it, but it will give you better results.

The Live Histogram with help you also. You will know in advance if you will burn you picture on white or black.

If you can work you camera on manual, do it

Great,

Have a look also on the following wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metering_mode

It explains how the metering on cameras works.
