The affordable HD

We all know getting into underwater HDV cameras is quite expensive. We recently received the new Equinox housing for the HC1/A1U. The housing is very reasonably priced...at $1,299 for the more conservative budget but for those wanting to shoot HD. The housing is very nice, has access to all of the important controls, and for only $250 more you can add the 2.5 inch monitor on the backplate.

Equinox makes high quality mechanical housings for nearly all video cameras on the market. They are very reliable, the controls are very nice, and all of the housings are very reasonably priced.

for further information, visit www.dive-equinox.com or www.h2ophotopros.com

Ah, but if only an Amphibico Phenom housing for the HDR-FX1 could be had for just under $5k with the macro flipdown lens....

Re: The affordable HD

Folks,

Just to add to what Stuart has said, Mike (our H2O Photopro) is extremely pleasant and helpful to talk to, either on the phone, or on the Board. I have tapped his knowledge about videography and cameras often. He has never failed to come up with good information and suggestions, even when that led somewhere other than to his equipment. He has been and continues to be a valuable resource!

He also is a direct supporter of this Board, and contibutes directly to what is needed to keep this Board running, and available to all. That he makes his living through sales of his photographic services and equipment should be obvious to all. That is why he knows so much about the subject.

That he can offer deals to our membership is not only acceptable, but also another part of his contribution to our Board, not something that should in any way be criticized!

As always, thanks Mike for your help!

Re: The affordable HD

That's an excellent price guys. Go look around before you complain.....

I've got a video rig and I blanch at the amount of money I've invested in it.. takes beautiful video, but it sure ain't cheap.

Re: The affordable HD

My apologies. Had not seen other direct selling in any of the other forums, so it seemed pretty out of place. If someone else had initiated the query first, it probably wouldn't have stood out so much.

Re: The affordable HD

seemed to me, a more informative post than a direct sale post. With prices like that we should more than welcome the heads up, especially a supporter and expert like H2Ophotopro.

Re: The affordable HD

OK, playing the devils advocate here. Inexpensive housing that works, granted. How about the lens or dome port quality? I had a similar looking sewer pipe video housing from Hypertech years ago and the edge to edge distortion from the cheap plastic dome port--not to mention the vignetting--was unacceptable. Macro was completely out of the question.

Why spend the money on HD when the final result from the optics are crap? Anyone from Equinox care to upload a sreenshot of a ruler underwater with this housing?

On the other hand, if you want to just shoot some "family underwater videos", maybe the Equinox would be OK. But remember, you get what you pay for....
