![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Questions about PAL and DVD in Europe I'm compressing Rebreathers Volume I into DVD/NTSC on my Macintosh. My general question is: Do most people (technicall savvy) use multi-format DVD players? I am most focused on the UK, Italy, Germany and France? The early info. I get is that DVD/NTSC doesnt usually pose any viewing difficulties. Many thanks. Ken |

![]() | most DVD players available for sale in the UK are multi region or home region +1 secondary region. There is also an increasing amount of DivX capable DVD players hitting the UK markets as well and then the multi function recorders, mp3, divx super duper units. I have a few friends who are far more savy on this than me, but I would say that the people in Europe who are likely to 'import' are going to be able to play anything on a DVD disk. DT. |

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Micha from EKPP send me two of their cave DVDs, just send him a mail and asked if he had to do anything special so I could play them on our NTSC systems. Ken, are you with MadDog? When I received my video the player acted up so I pulled a copy for myself on DVD. Send Andrew a copy and asked him if he wanted me to chapter it so he could make and sell them as DVDs. Thought it might be more cost effective and attractive ... never heard back. I figured if can sell some more we might actually get Volume II some day. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Rob, Double-Top and Stefan, Thanks for your advice and assistance. From what I gather most folks, or rebreather folks have multi-regional capable players. That being the case the first batch of Rebreather Vol 1 will be NTSC. Yes, I am with Mad Dog. We've been working on RB Vol II since last year and accumulating some interesting footage including a deep penetration of the Jodrey. The Jodrey artilce was featured in the last IANTD Nitrox Diver. It's really cool in there as well as truly hazardous. I think Andy mentioned you with regards to archiving to DVD...but somewhere along the way??? He's off on expedition in some warm place right now. Arrrgh. If you fellows leave me your e-mail addresses in my box I can send you a prototype teaser clip. 1.9 mb Quicktime. mov file Cheers. Ken |

That's cool, I really liked Vol I.A lot of footage of the rebreathers, and as you can see in my PRISM article I was inpired to use the "tour around the loop" idea. Had done it a couple of times verbally with a rig at hand it works so well when explaining it. I still think it's the best combination of some basic general knowledge combined with unit specific footage. The latter is important to keep the intrest of people new to the subject as well as making it worth watching more than once. I'm looking forward to the second volume. Thanks to thse involved in the projects.

| Despotic Overlord ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Pal / NTSC and the region on the DVD are 2 different things. Most European TVs will play either PAL or NTSC - which is the broadcast format. DVD players have region encoding which are supposed to stop dvds from USA playing in Eu and vice versa - this is different to PAL/NTSC. You can get around this using multi region players. But to tell the truth it is much easier for you if you are making the DVD to just make it region free in the first place - a simple selection in software. Cheers Stuart PS upload the video clip to the gallery!! |
