![]() ![]() | Re: multimedia storage devices I use the following http://http://www.card-media.co.uk/x...pro+vp3310.htm superceded now but I use it all the time (put my own hdd in it which made it a bit cheaper. plugf in the memory card, press one button and wait till it has finished. It creates a new folder everytime you transfer, so it would create a cf1, cf2 and xd1 if you had trransferred from 2 compact flash cards and one xd. When you get home plug it in via usb and browse the folders. I dont know whether colour screens are worth it, for battery reasons and as some dont work with raw. Mine will work for a week without reecharging, copying at least one almost full gb card a day. recharges through USB or a supplied ac charger. John R |

I've got an adaptor that allows Sony (and some other brands, but I don't know which) to download to an iPod via a USB cable. Haven't used it a lot and have mixed experience getting it to download reliably so far (though that could well be me). Nice things are:have been looking at different brands, apple, epson, etc. but can't seem to find a good review forum on any of them. looking for your take on the subject. - Fewer devices and chargers to take with you - You can see the pictures on your iPod - Dirt cheap (I think I paid 20 USD in an Apple Store in late 05) Cheers,

| My unit can beat up yours Current Rebreather/s: | Re: multimedia storage devices I'm sure there are other, more advanced solutions out there now, but I have had great success with the ImageTank. IMAGE TANK I bought one a few years ago - at the time you could get one with a 2.5" laptop HDD pre-installed, or without and install your own. I did the latter with a 20GB HDD that I already had, so it cost me about $100. Similar to one of the other posts, you plug in the CF card, the small LCD display indicates the card is present and how much storage is on each (CF and HDD), then you push a button and it copies the contents of the CF card onto the hard drive. You can then wipe the CF card after, if you want to. I used it on several week long trips where I only brought one or two CF cards - just dumped them into the tank each day and then plugged the ImageTank into my PC when I got home. It has a USB 2.0 port - your computer sees it as a normal external HDD, so you can also use it as a portable drive for large amounts of info when you're not using it for pics. There's one on eBay right now with a 60GB HDD for 'buy-it-now' $100 US: Imagetank G2 portable drive with Integrated Card Reader - eBay (item 110233639134 end time Mar-21-08 08:45:20 PDT)

![]() ![]() | Re: multimedia storage devices Currently downloading CF cards via SanDisk Fire Wire Card reader. (very fast!) This is downloaded to my MacBook Pro via Aperture software. The file is actually stored on the computers hard drive and simultaneously creates a "vaulted copy (original)" on an external MyBook 500GB External Hard drive hooked up to an 8.0 Fire Wire. This is seamless and redundant. Once the DROBO company develops a FireWire version I think I will pick one up. ![]() This thing is amazing, and allows for redundancy and the ability to pull out crashed hard drives and replace with any SATA drive without loss of memory!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: multimedia storage devices A further thought. If you're not happy dragging a full-feature laptop along (issues with theft and the risk of dumping water on it), how about one of these ASUSTeK Computer Inc.. The 4Gb version is now available in the UK for 229 GBP. You'd still need an external HDD, but that wouldn't cost much. This might give you more photo manipulation than some of the other options. I'm getting one for my birthday apparently, so I'll let you know what it's like in a month's time :-) Cheers,

![]() | For the last 2/3 years I have used the Epsom viewer and really cannot fault it compared to carrying a laptop. My approach is to do an initial sort on the camera (Nikon D200) download to the Epsom and create a folder. When on a long trip I then create a second folder by viewing on the Epsom, which at first pass through is the best of the initial folder . I have yet to overflow the storage capability after 2/3 years usage and presently diving in excess of 150 hours per year. On returning home I download from the Epsom to my pc. An exxpensive solution but one that I have found to work. Regards, Crispy |
