![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Winter mine diving can be strenuous :) Yesterday we had planned a photo dive to a new place in our local dive site. The weather was nice but a bit too cold. When arrived at the site the temperature was around -7C. Luckily the ice was not too thick so the hole was ready quite fast. Everything went nicely until we got to 6m where I usually check the housing properly for leaks. I got a nice scare when I saw a few water drops inside the housing . I found that water had seeped in through one of the button axle holes. We had to abort the dive and I took the camera back to the surface. There was only a few drops inside the housing so no damage done. I think this was caused by the cold weather shrinking the button axles. Next time I will take the housing underwater straight from the car. After all we did a nice 90 minutes cave dive to the new area. When we came back to the hole in the ice we saw that there was no hole, it was frozen A few bangs from below cracked the ice and we could climp out from the water. The temperature had fallen lower, now it was around -15C. This started to freeze all the wet gear really fast. It was a tough job to get out of the drysuit. Here is a fewe pics from the surface, taking pictures can be hard work ![]() Last edited by jhaaja : 6th March 2008 at 06:23. |

The sky had no clouds and I don`t remember when I had seen the stars in the sky so good The dive site is a bit remote so there is not much artificial light spoiling the stars.Roger, when will you drag your pussy ass here? I guess summer is nicer? JH |

RTFP ![]() Do you have some pics of the inside? Which mine was it? Nad I had to leave the camera on the ice because the housing had a small leak.It is an old lime stone mine in the center eastern part of Finland close to Pieksämäki, the village is called Montola. Some older pics can be looked at at: Picasa Web Albums - Jani - Cave and ice ... And some of those pasted here for the lazy ones: JH Last edited by jhaaja : 6th March 2008 at 09:26. |
