I'd heard that the wreck was collapsing...looks like thats not the case.
Any photos of the bowsprit or crow's nest?...I have one in my living room of the latter.
I agree, it's one of the best dives in the Caribbean, glad to hear you can still get there by land (with connections....!).

Re: Bonaire at 200 fsw -- Windjammer Wreck

Yes, you can dive it from shore now but it takes a lot of prior planning. I had to send all of my passport information to Walt Stark of Rec Tek Scuba a month or so ahead of time. He then had to clear the dive with the powers at BOPEC. Then, as long as there are no ships coming into or out of port, the shore dive is a go.

The ship is collapsing somewhat but can still be safely penetrated.

As far as my set up, I was shooting a Canon Digital Rebel with a Tokina 10-17 lens in a Sea & Sea housing with dual Sea & Sea YS-110 strobes.

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone.

Doug

Re: Bonaire at 200 fsw -- Windjammer Wreck

JP made a nice video. I think I recognised Anne-Marie in the picture. BTW, this is not the Anne-Marie we know from this forum!! The Anne-Marie I'm referring to is an OC cave diver from the Netherlands.

Only one problem .... too many bubbles. Luckily Walt was diving his Evo.

Brings back lots of memories. Last time I dove this wreck (oc - air) was 5 years ago. Time to go back to Bonaire.

Re: Bonaire at 200 fsw -- Windjammer Wreck

Doug,

Thanks for the report. Karen and I are headed to Bonaire in September. I spoke with Walt on the phone about a month ago about Rebreather logistics. I'm planning on doing this dive while I'm there. We didn't cover the specifics about it yet, so I didn't realize it was a shore dive. Very cool!

Question:

Air for BO at 200': Any particular reason you didn't have He? Logistics?
