There are a lot of failure modes and you have no idea which ones are handled and which ones are not. A completely separate HUD is IMHO an asset.
Yes a HUD is an asset, even one which is not completely independent. In my case, I have a completely independent 2dry for cross checking and very simple sp only electronics w/HUD. Simple means less failure modes, which means I'm comfortable trusting my pulsing HUD for a few minutes if I have to.

The idea about it is that when it kicks in you know it is DEAD WRONG (as opposed to an eCCR where a solenoid firing is a normal thing). So basically it it of similar complexity as eCCR but it has a major advantage.
Sure, I understand the appeal of a hybrid E/M, but having to calibrate 2 sets of electronics/displays, and check your IP and CMF flow rate, is more complexity than any current ECCR I know of.

The solenoid firing (better even together with a buzzer) is a true alarm. Meaning you have to stop filming (or whatever) and start diving. The solenoid firing is an alarm NOT a reassurance. Hence I expect the empty tank or clogged orifice to be caught.
In short I beleive in relying on electronics by exception as opposed to relying on it by default.
Yes, but either of these faults will also be caught by any unit with a HUD, unless your electronics do not have any warning of hanging-like a pulsing HUD-and freeze at exactly the same moment as the clogged orifice/running out of O2.

Did a short piece of video for a Discovery Channel Production mid December under the ice, pretty shallow though. No concerns using a COPIS Meg, just inject 02 and go, go, go. Also, at -5C air temp and +2C water temp, I did about 10 - 15 mins prebreathing with FRESH 'Sorb. A HUD would be a great idea IMHO. My 15 minutes of fame; let you know when the production airs sometime next fall!
