I saw your video here, and seen Peter's (PCDiver) video.

In my amateur eyes, not sure you should be advicing Peter about videoing...
Maybe not.......but maybe I can advise on MCCR rebreather diving......
I dont need a HUD, solenoid, vibrating moutpiece, and electronics to support other electronics to stay alive.
If you do....leave the camera in the boat....
Thats my honest opinion.

Roger,

how do you handle the type of shot that I mentioned (filming and going up at the same time, with both hands on the camera)?

Peter
If I feel I want to film on ascent and I cant ad O2 manually I just let it drop.
I normally do not film more than 5 sec at the time unless it is some thing really spectacular going on. If that is the case I ad O2 between shots when I get the chance.........or just turn up the needle valve (Pelagian)....
Dropping your po2 for a minute or two does not effect your deco schedule much really.
I am not in any way a video expert........but I do dive a lot of MCCR...

Cheers

Starting at ppO2 of 1.0 (conservative eh?) then ascending all the way to the surface gives you a ppO2 of 0.25 which is still perfectly breathable.

I'm not advocating it as standard practise. I'm just pointing out that if you have the opportunity to make the once-in-a-lifetime-shot then you should do it. Even better you can dive down again without having to flush your loop to get rid of all the O2 an eCCR would have injected on the way down .

A coin usually has two sides....
That is my point!
Happy diving to all!

So how do you monitor the pO2 while filming?

Re: mCCR or eCCR for video filming

If you dive a MCCR with continous flow and do not change depth dramaticly your po2 will not change very much.
I clip my po2 meter to my camera housing and use a monitor as a viewfinder for my camera so I can shoot video and monitor my po2 at the same time.
I just glance down on my po2 meter as I keep the object I am filming in the corner of my eye.
With a continous flow in a MCCR you do not get the peaks you get when the solenoid fire on a ECCR.
If I want to ascend I just let the po2 drop.
Luckily most aquatic life swim horizontal so most of the time I do not have to do any forced ascents.
I had a ECCR with a HUD before and that was fine too.

Dont you think I can kep my po2

As offpro says, we are a few Meg-divers in Norway now.
If you want to have a look at both a mCCR and eCCR, and ask questions abouth them, that can be arranged...
I live near Oslo, so give me a shout if you are interrested

Re: mCCR or eCCR for video filming

I am not saying shooting video is better done on a MCCR, I just say its perfectly doable.
