Re: video editing software

It really does depend on what you're trying to do. There is some nice information at 1 Beyond, Inc. - High Definition Video, Turnkey Digital Video Editing Systems, High Definition Laptops, Avid Certified Laptops, High Definition DVR, High Definition Television, High Definition Camcorder

HD comes in all different formats. If you'r shooting HDV, things change a little. If you're not editing more than 4 or 5 layers, life gets dramatically easier and cheaper.

Here is a link to an interesting white paper: http://www.1beyond.com/pdf/Design_Co...hite_Paper.pdf

Do I really need a desktop with Pentium-4 fast processor to edit HD, or will a laptop with Pentium-M (2.26 GHz) with 2 Gb RAM be enough ?

I will be getting a large external hard disk just for editing, but do not have any Pentium-4 desktop...

I will start with Ulead software, but have no problem with going to better software if needed.

David,

Thanks for the link, I will review that tonight when I have time.

At the moment, I am leaning toward getting an iMac to do the HD video editing since most people seem to recommend it.

Do you have any opinion regarding that ?

FYI, I am a video-newbie who just want to capture some nice HD footage and do minor editing.

TIA

Re: video editing software

Phi,
I don't know much about consumer editing software, I either use high end Avids or Final Cut Pro at home, but for the basic editing of HDV, you will be more than happy with the macbook or Macbook Pro and imovie.
Also, with leopard they imbedded some great things as far as prep and post to web as well.

also keep in mind that with parallels you have a native windoze machine as well.
