Re: video editing software

I'm using Ulead Mediastudio 8 (is not Vista compatible) , for me works fine. It is also HD compatible, easy to use and has a DVD authoring plug in. Many programs are available as a trial download, so play a little bit with the different software before You make a decision to buy one.

Most of the software out there has a little bit to a big learning curve. Depends what your looking to do.If you dont want anything fancy and just want to dump video to dvd... imovie, avid, any of those will work. If you want to get serious, I agree with most of the other posts, you'll want a nice mac with final cut pro or software of your choice.

Are you shooting HD or SD?

Re: video editing software

i have seen the final cut of mac. it has many advantages over the others but i dont really want to buy another pc or mac just for editing .i would rather buy another rebreather than go down that road. im using a sony dcr hc85e which gives my clear finish..what i need is a editing program thet will just give me some more opitions and special efects..not to hard to work out.

I'm using Sony Vegas Pro and also Cineform NEO HDV for editing high-definition video. I tried Adobe Premiere, but didn't like it much. For an example, have a look at the video that I posted in this thread.
what is the difference between sony vagas 7 and sony vagas 8 ?

Vegas 8 is simply a newer version, with some new or improved features. You can find a short review here. There are many other reviews, simply search with Google for "Vegas 8 Review".

Vegas 8 also supports Vista, while Vegas 7 only supports Windows XP. (Not that I would care, I have no intentions of using Vista for video editing.)

Do I really need a desktop with Pentium-4 fast processor to edit HD, or will a laptop with Pentium-M (2.26 GHz) with 2 Gb RAM be enough ?

I will be getting a large external hard disk just for editing, but do not have any Pentium-4 desktop...

I will start with Ulead software, but have no problem with going to better software if needed.

IMO a Pentium 4 is way too slow for HD editing. You should get a very fast hard disk (like a 10,000 rpm disk), or a RAID-0, and at least an Intel Core 2 Duo. Even then, I recommend to use a fast codec, such as Cineform. Editing with MPEG directly is very slow.

this is what the europe zone is like this is why i buy most of my camera products in the us.. i use b&h photo in new york. for example a ikelite 125 flash is around 600 dollars in france its 1000 euros. And if i have the product sent by us mail and its under 2500 euros i dont pay and duty ..buying from the net i dont pay any tax either just the transport..so i safe money all the way round...i dont know if this is the case for the uk???
