Question olympus E330

Has anyone got or had experience using an Olympus E330 underwater. I have only used a digital compact and am looking to upgrade. This camera has great deals at the moment due to the launch of the E410 and E510.

I may be in the market for a second hand housing if I do decide to go this route. If you have one that you want to sell please PM me.

I would really appreciate any views.

Cheers

M

Re: olympus E330

Jim Lyle from Scubaboard has one.
This is a link from his last trip to Cozumel.
I have to warn you now- these images are additive...

Link- Colorful Cozumel - many pictures
Scubaboard discussion thread- http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=190987

The camera does have 'live view and Jim has raved about it.
Hope this helps.

Re: olympus E330

A mate has one, and he is not raving about it.

I've had a play and can't say that I like it.

What ever you do, steel well clear of the Olympus OEM housing. It only supports the housed olympus land strobes, which are too week for real uw work. I think you can get a converter now, but why bother.

Unfortunately with the 330 (which is dSLR not a compact) and the olympus housing you will not be able slave the INON's as you cannot use the flash, the housng will not allow it (you cannot flip up the flash, it isn't like the compacts), this is also the case with Ikelite, but with Ikelite you can hardwire and use TTL and manual control with the Ikelite strobes.

Another drawback is that you cannot use third party lenses such as Sigma which make a very good 17-70 Macro, you are stuck with the Olympus lenses which may be OK but pricey.

If you want to go SLR look for the run out deals on the Nikon D70 or Canon 350 which are in the same boat as the 330

Re: olympus E330

I tried an Olympus of a friend of mine housed in an Ikelite housing. I had problems with the viewfinder in combination with my inspo.

But I am spoiled with my Nikon D2X in a Seacam housing.
