Sensor fitting?

Is this sensor fitted into the Pelagian ore is it to big?
The text on the page say that it is equivalent to the Teledyne R-22D that is posted in the manual to be the one in the unit.

Oxygen Sensors for Diving

I know you have to mod. It but is it fitted after modifications?

Thank's

Re: Sensor fitting?

Hi Johan,

This sensor is made by Analytical Industries, and it is smaller than the Teledyne R22D sensor. But the thread at the end is the same.
So I guess it will fit the Pelagian but you'd better ask the manufacturer.

Re: Sensor fitting?

I'm not sure, but until Andy shows up:

The head i machined with very tight tolerances and you pretty much have to squezze the sensors into their positions/holders.
If this sensor is thinner than the original, I don't think that it will fit very good.
I'll gues that you can always use scotch tape to increase the diameter to make it fit, not a very clean solution thoo.

Do you have any dimensions of this sensor?
Let me know and I'll compare it with the avialable space in the head of my unit.

Good luck

/Johan Fredin

Re: Sensor fitting?

Guess you need to hope that Teledyne does not change the dimensions of its sensor cases in the future. I do no think a outcry from pelagian owners will cause them to rethink a change.

If they did and the new design did not fit would a new head need to be purchased? I think this would be a good thing to know if looking at the pros and cons of this unit over others.

I don't think that it would be a major issue.. One can always grind/mill down the material that holds the cells and install an adapter for the new cell design.

But then again this is better answerd by Andy..

Re: Sensor fitting?

Hi guys!
Until Andy log in.......
The thread on the cell is cut off anyway for instant validation purposes.
The cell is pinned in place laying down.
If the cell is smaller It should be pretty straight forward to just put something
around the body. Have no impact of performance what so ever.

Cheers
Roger

Johan,

Use some inner tube from a bicycle wheel. It works like a charm.

The cell sockets in the head are made for the Teledynes as they are fatter than the AI's. Personally I prefer the Teledynes, but this is the same as saying I always go for number 7 at the lotteries! If you use the AI's then you need some elecric tape to build up the fattness. If you dont, then the cells may move a bit. This means the angle of DIL injected is not perfect. You could still do Instant Cell Validation, but it will be a bit less "instant"!

The important thing is to test the cells for liniarity before you chop off the thread. I doubt you can get a refund for a crappy cell if you return it molested as the manufacturer will say "It is not liniar as you cut the threads of, dude!"

Andy
