![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Sealing Hydrophobic membrane to canister Dear List, I’m sure some of you all ready made this modification …….but if you didn’t I think it’s a good idea. I sandwiched some 1/16th inch o-ring cord between the canister body and the hydrophobic membrane. The benefits are obvious. I did this on the top and bottom to make it more Hydrophobic in case of a loop flood. I like using o-ring cord instead of RTV or silicone. This makes the canister much easier to take apart in the future for cleaning. (It isn't glued together) Make sure you sandwich the o-ring cord in the side like the picture shows. You don't want to put the o-ring in the groove under or on top of the membrane. It will make the canister taller. CCR designed the canister a certain height and you don't want to change that! Cheers Frankie ![]() P.S. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the factory installs the membrane with silicone. Best to ask Al or Jason. Last edited by Frankie Pellegrino : 31st October 2007 at 00:59. |

If there is another Frocination to my Boris, I'll be sure to have my girl friend model it. I'm a team player and I want to make the rebreather guys happy. I'm glad you like the idea. I joined the ends of the o-ring toghether (to form a ring) with a drop of superglue. I suggested to the factory they put a flat rubber 'o-ring' into the bottom of the groves that hold the membrane as that would be a proper fix. But heard they are using silicon. I didnt like the idea of gluing the membrane in.

Mike I'm not sure I understand what your writing. (so please correct me if I'm wrong) I suggested to the factory they put a flat rubber 'o-ring' into the bottom of the groves that hold the membrane as that would be a proper fix. But heard they are using silicon. I didnt like the idea of gluing the membrane in. If a flat o-ring was sandwiched on the top and bottom of the membrane it isn't making any more of a seal then if it's sandwiched on the side's . The porex is very hydrophobic not water proof. In my opinion the o-ring or silicone would only stop a easy water flow under or over the membrane regardless of were it's installed. So if water got into the loop you wouldn't get a caustic drink from the inhalation side of the kit. Then you can clear the water from the exhalation counter lung. We agree the canister will work with a good amount of water in it. And that if it was flooded you could recover and stay on the loop. (WOB wouldn't be the best or if it came through the exhalation side thats another problem) What I'm not understanding is if you installed a flat o-ring like you stated it wouldn't make any difference then if it was installed on the side of the membrane.Cheers Frankie |
