Trying one out

ok, so I got the chance to try out an Ourobouros this weekend. As usual with a new unit its hard to judge things, since you're not familiar with them, so I won't offer my opinions after just 46 minutes.

There were pros/cons, but theres definitely some questions I have.

1. is it just me, or are the manual add buttons a nightmare to press? (Im told these are being changed)
2. Is everyone happy with running their Bouyancy from offboard tanks? (I heard the reasons, before anyone jumps in)
3. How do you find the gas glow rate with the ADV?
4. What do you use for primary instruments, the HUD/Secondary, or the HUD/Primary or just Primary. I must admit I liked the HUD/secondary, but then thats probably just due to my lack of familiarity with the displays.

This was my opinion at the beginning but then I found them not such a nightmare, I like the concept and design: easy to find, easy to use, difficult to get them blocked.

I think is a question of attitude, I always dove the second version of my homebuild with the bailout where I also had the buoyancy control. I had smaller tanks so...better save a bit.

The factory adj. is made for CE but you can change it, the control is in the center section.
I find it ok for me.

Well, as I already said in another thread, I had enough experience with the VR3 so it was easy. However I use mainly the HUD, check the primary in case of alarms and every 5/10 minutes I check the passive.

Of course I'm defending the unit I own but I will never say that it is the best or the perfect one. Probably the following version will change something depending on the discussion with the actual owners but simply, for me it is great.

Yeah and Zak, if you looked at VR3s as more than just ballast, you too would know what the Boris leckies are about.............................

Cheers,

Dave.

Should have hung on for another 14 minutes so you could qualify as an Instructor

Anyway, I always felt that the Boris will be/is a well-engineered unit when Kevin is done. The only negative thing that I see is the size as I have had some bad past experiences. What do you feel about its size since I am sure you are more used to the CK size ?

Actually to be fair, its pretty damn close to the size of a classic. Certainly for depth its identical (I use 3L dumpies).

Im trying to remember the width difference, it was about the length of my palm.... I seem to recall the orryborry is the wider.

I could live with width, but not thickness.

So you think the thickness of the Boris is similar to the CK with 3L dumpies ? Must admit that I am quite surprised to hear that...

I was shocked to be honest. It looks a lot bigger than it is.....

the depth was measured from backplate to back of casing, its the same (or near as damn it).

Thanks for clearing that up.

Now I only need to work on the price to get it about as much as the CK and we have a deal...
