| PRISM DIVER & LUVIN IT! Current Rebreather/s: | I was curious as to how you dump your CL when water gets in the loop, and which way the loop runs (dil in inhalation side and O2 in exhalation, or vice. verse.)

When water in the loop it will go in the right counter lung (exhale counter lung) who have the over pressure valve, so lying flat (or 45 deg) you will over pressure all the loop by adding manually the dil manual add buton and that will quick out by the opv the water/saliva etc ... Dil and O2 are added at the same area as between the exhale counter lung and the radial scrubber (before it), so plenty of time to mix before being analysed by the o2 cells Jerome www.snoopyloop.com "Deep Caves Explorations" |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Boris is around The course is IANTD Mod 1, specific to the Ouroboros. It's no more excellent or un-excellent than any other IANTD Mod 1 course. Phil and Kev, one of whom designed the unit and the other who was no.1 test diver know more about diving it than anyone else. So what you are are saying is "I had an excellent course taught by Kev/Phil. (or in you're case, Ian, Kev And Phil And Al...). All are very thorough instructors and the Ouroboros course taught by them will be as thorough as any of the other courses they run. As always, the quality of the course depends on the instructor, not the agency or the material. And I still think it's not ideal as your first Rebreather......Although I rate the unit very highly, I've had u/w "bugs" that were easily fixable but may have caused problems for less experienced divers. And do you really know what everything on the vr3 does? martin |

![]() | I was that man... Quote: (Originally Posted by iani) Phill has recently taught the first course for a guy who not only had no CCR experience but who had never used a VR3, a steep learning curve but perfectly doable. As Jerome says, the course is indeed excellent, as is the unit. Ian, that was me. The only CCR experience I had was a 1/2 hour try dive on an Evolution earlier this year. I had never so much as picked up a VR3 prior to day one of my Ouroboros course.Ian Someone above says that you shouldn't have one as your first rebreather......I ask, why not? I spent a lot of time researching what was available, what they were capable of doing, how much they cost. I looked at what I wanted to achieve over a specified time frame then started talking to some very knowledgeable people, asked questions (some on here) and listened to what they had to say.the end result was my decision to buy and train on the Ouroboros. I had no preconceived ideas of what to expect as I had no experience of other units. I dont know how the Ouroboros matches up against other units out there as I have nothing to compare it against. The course was tough, as you'd expect any Mod 1 course to be, and by day 3 I had got my head around the Primary (VR 3) display. By the end of the weeks course I had the bare minimum of knowledge to go out there and get through a CCr dive without doing something really stupid...thats something we've all had to do on our different units, it matters not whether it was an APD model, Meg, or Kiss. So whatever unit you learn on, you still have the same problems to face after you finish your course. If you were taught well, as I believe I was, you have the basic tools to get on with the job, learning as I go along, making inevitable (sometimes stupid) mistakes; the fact that I learned on an Ouroboros puts me in no better or worse position than the next person just qualified for the first time to dive a rebreather. It's the quality of the instruction and the attitude of the individual that makes the difference.
