Thanks for the info and summary.A good friend of mine recently took a cave course from Kevin, and had a go on the Boris. He was very impressed with the low WOB (his exact words were "... like breathing without the unit!") so that sparked my interest, again. But I still haven't able to convince myself about the size/weight of the unit yet. And as you have pointed out, it is an unit more suitable for expedition-type diving which I don't do at all. However, there are still technologies from the unit that I wish would migrate eventually over to smaller-size units that I dive.

| Still Learning.... Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Honestly, how is it? As a first time rebreather owner of a Boris I don't feel qualified or experienced enough to make any serious comments but here are a few things: 1) The HUD - is excellent - if it's flashing then there's something to think about (especially white!) - the vibrate alarm cannot be ignored 2) The electronics generally - the "VR3" takes some getting used to but so far I've yet to find anything it will not tell me and it allows you to do pretty much anything you would ever want to - short of taking it apart underwater. 3) The scrubber - dead easy to fill - one of my biggest concerns is CO2. 4) The hoses - I'm not the tallest guy in the world and an Inspiration owning friend of mine commented on the length of the hoses but you have to consider how far the hoses travel compared with the APD units. I find the length fine. 5) accessibility to wrecks - I can only compare this with my twin 12 OC set up and the only "wreck" I've been in is the Stanegarth at Stoney Cove. My impression was that you have to allow a bit more headroom for the top edge of the case. 6) WOB - I found scarily low - being used to OC regs maybe I'm not best qualfied to comment on this but the lack of any kind of resistance means I have to remember that I have a mouthpiece to hold on to! 7) The harness - wasn't impressed initially but seems to do the job. 8) The pre-dive set up via the menus - I did the course with my instructor there to gently remind me of the error of my ways - the first real dive was a few weeks later and the pre-dive was straightforward. I have not dived the unit so can`t say anything from a personal view. My friend said that he notices it and it depends on the trim position in the water. He has earlier dived OTS Rebreather:s and also back mounted CL machines.Hopefully I will get to do a try dive when I get back to Finland ![]() JH |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Honestly, how is it? 200 hours and back to the factory. However you are not locked out (ever) so if you don't mind the white lite HUD alarm flashing and having to supress the vibrator every so often then you can continue to dive. The idea of no lock out is fairly obvious. - I will change the harness (not hot the back plate), I don't like X straps. - I too use a mini tupperware bowl to solve the pod fromturning on everytime it gets wet, otherwise carry spare batteries -Swagelock for additional O2 & Dil are a good idea, running out of either (with no way to add more) means OC and I didn't pay 15k to go OC on a long dive. - It would be nice to see a wing with a little bum lift as DrMike said. - There have been a few add ons as time passes; hydrophobic membrane, new VPM software, colour screen, detachable HUD (if you need to replace/repair it), new wing? It would nce to see prices remain afordable for the original giunee pigs.... Fil |

After a while on chest mounted lungs back mounted lungs felt a little 'odd' and it did take a few dives to get used to it but bythe sounds of it your friend only used the machine once so he probably didn't have the time to settle in.F |

No, he actually owns and dives one. It was nothing serious just something he noticed to be different. I guess it only takes a some hours to get used to it.F JH |
