Boris loop hoses

Just had a play with a Boris and well it is a very well engineered unit- nicely thought out etc. I did notice that the loop hoses appear to be bog standard industrial polyurethane hose with a green kevlar hose wrap shrunk on top. So- just in case any of you lot pop a loop hose, I thought you might be interested in this...

Re: Boris loop hoses

Woz,

Want to get a sample in, and I'll test it? I only need a couple of metres to find out, you could have a great product on your hands

Clear hardcore loop hoses might just be the answer to some of the bling ideas I've been having. All I need now is a HUD which comes as a set of Xmas lights and I can mount along the back. The unit will light up like a tree every time the HUD lights!

Digs.

EDIT - Sorry, I just reread your original post. "In case you pop one"??? How exactly do you intend to pop one of these things? Whatever breaks a loop hose on one of them has probably clean removed your head. So no need for new hoses.

Re: Boris loop hoses

Most rebreather hoses have cuffs moulded on the ends for making the connection with the hard bits of the Rebreather. Does the Ouroboros?

Having tried similar crushproof ducting on my homebuilds, it's feckin hard getting a decent seal without a smooth cuff.

Does it matter about cuffs if the internal is smooth bore?

Re: Boris loop hoses

Same happened to mine, especially in the cold. The stuff I used tended to tear between the ribs anywhere the hose flexed against a hard edge (i.e. at the connection ends). And with it being crush resistant it is hard to clamp it on to a connection to get a good enough seal.

Re: Boris loop hoses

Well the hose on a Boris is this stuff. It's identical. The connectors on a Boris appear not to be moulded but are a larger version of the connector you get on the end of an AP Valves corrugated hose on a standard jacket- a split collar with an external nut.

I thought that Boris has Cooper hoses, made in the US.

According to the fact sheet the Acro hoses are spiral wound - but other than that, the colour, the covering material, the moulded non corrugated end pieces - yes they are identical
