Personaly I would decide what i needed the unit to do in terms of performance. Then look at what you need the unit to do in terms of logistics. My personal check list would be... History of the unit in terms of type of diving carried out depth and reliability How the above fits in with MY type of diving Performance of the unit Reliability of the unit Accessibility of spairs and repairs Cost Transportation Design Using the above check list you can find out what you need and passably you will have to compromise. I don't think its relevant what unit you take your first training course on whats relevant is the unit does what you need it to do. ATB Mark Chase

![]() | Ouroboros - An entry level rebreather? Yes, I don't see why not. Quote: (Originally Posted by Ant Slegg) Has anyone on this list done the Ouroboros training with Phil Short without having dived on a rebreather before? I.e. switched directly from OC to CCR via the Ouroboros. Hi Ant,I just found your post. I did exactly what you ask. The course was a challenge but then I guess anyones first time course on a CCR is. I find every time I dive it a challenge, but then I have 18 years OC experience and only 2 months CCR experience. What came instinctively to me on OC is no longer there, or doesn't apply any more. I really do feel like it's a brand new start as a novice. Most of the problems I've had were nothing to do with the unit but with my relative inexperience. The only thing I think that would have made the transition easier for me was that prior to my course I had never used a VR3. If you have one or can use one, I think you have part of the battle won. That's not to say it can't be done, I suppose I am testament to that, but it would have made things easier. I would recommend the unit and Phil Short as an Instructor (though your choice is limited to him plus two others, one as I'm sure you know being the designer). If you want to PM me for any more information please do, but if you do, be patient waiting for a reply as I don't check in as often as I used to. Most of what I had to say was covered in the report I did on YD, a link to which appears elsewhere in this thread. Regards
