Low Bat on Boris

Hey List.
Had a funny experience today, i changed batteries on 2 different boris, brand new batts.
Both units showed up after predive with low batt, switched both units off and i was able to get rid of the alarm on one of the rbs (my own :-) )
but the other continued showing low batt.

does anyone recall having seen that before?

Re: Low Bat on Boris

Allan,

I have never seen that, are the batteries all from the same pack?

What did they show as a voltage when you put them in?

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

When you leave the boris on for awhile does the battery levels
change at all ? ( Climb or drop ? )

No, but if, as per your profile, you're in Copenhagen in January then the temperature might be fairly low. My experience has been cheap new batteries maybe OK in warmer climates but don't last very long when it's cold!

Re: Low Bat on Boris

A couple of questionsif I may:
  • Do you have the new software which switches the unit on if it detects a dprop in PO2?
  • Did you replace with new batteries and then store the unit for a time, unit swithced off, before you dive?
The reason I ask is that I noted that the PO2 monitor function seems to consume battery power in its diormant state. So having left the unit for a 2 week brake, despite having new batteries, I noticed I had a low battery warning on the pre dive checks. I gave myself 2 solutions:
  • Remove batteries when stored (it will zero your scrubber used time etc)
  • Dive more often.....

Re: Low Bat on Boris

I've had a few low battery problems normally after having had the unit in storage for a while. On one occasion having fitted new batteries (i.e. the ones I had bought as spares but were still in the packet) I got a low battery warning. I set off for the shop for new batteries (a 10 minute walk) and by the time I got back the battery warning was cleared. I dived the unit (OK maybe not the wisest decision) with one hand on my bail out and had no issues and the unit dived fine the rest of the week. Water temperature about 9degC IIRC.

I'm beginning to wonder if the issue isn't in the cells but in the votlmeter.

Re: Low Bat on Boris

Actually RB1 worked fine today, RB2 did not come within my grasp so i dont know about that one.
I think the software is 5.1A

But both RBS has been stored for 3weeks because of the christmas holiday, so non diving with the units up to batt change, so it sounds more like the last answer?
