![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Good Tips and Ideas for Ouroboros Owners Dear Boris Comrades Here’s a few tips and ideas I would like to share with you. Some of these modifications were all ready posted in the past…. I added them just in case you didn’t see them. 1) Cooper hose weights. IMG_0719.jpg IMG_0720.jpg 2) Dive Rite TEC D-rings installed on the bottom of my kit. The plastic piece under the syntactic foam base is a black cutting board. This is a great place to clip off stage bottles and other stuff. The custom syntactic foam base was sprayed with “LINE-X” (truck bed liner spray) It’s awesome stuff. And is really holding up! IMG_0721.jpg 3) A counter sunk set screw in the counter lung locking ring. The screw is very small and counter sunk so it won’t prohibit you from screwing in your hoses. The nice thing about it is your counter lungs won’t ever spin when your screwing and unscrewing your hoses. IMG_0725.jpg 4) Screw on o-ring sealed dust caps for your Din connections . No water will get in the H.P. whip so you can take off the heavy bottles when your cleaning your kit. Also notice the little lanyard to pull on to disconnect your tanks. IMG_0732.jpg 5) I drilled two holes through the metal plate that covers the solenoid cover. After you do a very deep dive it’s nice to have a peek just to see if that compartment got flooded. IMG_0734.jpg 6) Home made retention band with some 3/8 inch rubber as a spacer. I presented CCR this modification last winter but never posted it because I didn’t want to here other rebreatherworld divers bad mouth my Boris. I was really happy to see CCR making this modification available to it’s customers in early spring 2007. And because it was my idea. I guess I’m patting my self on the back. This is the two Dollar answer to making the Delrin canister more stable. It just can’t flex (expand /contract) with that metal band around it. IMG_0735.jpg 7) I painted the top of the battery compartment. I once flooded this compartment and found if I painted it I’ll be able to visually see through the clear cap if the o-ring is extruded before I screw down the locking ring. The blue color gives a good contrast if the black o-ring is extruded. It’s a pain in the ass to hold down and tighten the locking ring…..But you get the hang of it. Also when I flooded the compartment thank god it was fresh water. Everything under the cap is potted . The cap dried out and still works perfect. CCR really builds a kick ass product IMG_0736.jpg IMG_0738.jpg 8) I grinded notches into the shutoff valves so I can spin them first so it kind-a brakes the seal and makes it easier to move them. I made three notches on each shut off valve . IMG_0745.jpg 9) label all the O2 cells /wires and hand sets so there’s no guessing what cell is bad and so you all ways plug the correct wire into the same cell. I also put tape around them so they never come a part. IMG_0740.jpg IMG_0743.jpg 10) I put these plugs onto the center section when cleaning my kit. It just makes things less messy. You don’t get water all over the place when you blast the garden hose in the lungs. IMG_0741.jpg IMG_0742.jpg 11) The OPV filter. I used scotch brite. Others have used fine screen. What ever you decide it’s a must modification in my opinion! Boris004-2.jpg Boris008.jpg 12) I also painted my HUD's front rim with flat black paint (not the sticker) and covered it with black duck tape. This protects it and stops the HUD's light from illuminating out of the sides/ top and bottom. It really makes a big difference if you dive in caves or dark water. In my opinion a better choice would be to make it out of a solid piece of black Delrin instead of the clear plastic they currently use. This would combat those issues. IMG_0750.jpg IMG_0752.jpg I hoped you got at least one good idea or tip! FRONCINATE Your kit today ![]() |

| DE/MD/NJ Wreck Diver ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Good Tips and Ideas for Ouroboros Owners I saw a few things there that I'm going to steal & use on my O2ptima, if that's allowed. ![]() I like the D-rings on the base & the Scotchbrite in the OPV's. Some that I've seen use a loose knit sponge of some sort, but that always gets shredded. Also like the color coded electrical tape for the sensors & harness. Thanks for the tips. To be honest, I was never interested in the Boris due to its size/weight but after having looked closely at the manufacturing quality of the parts from your pictures, I am very impressed. May be time to take a closer look at the Sentinel when more info is up on the website... ![]() |

May be time to take a closer look at the Sentinel when more info is up on the website... ![]() I have to tell you the Boris is one KICK ASS KIT! The machining, quality and CCR customer support is second to NONE! I've been diving it for two years now and I agree that it is big ,heavy, and expensive….. I also feel there are a lot of great rebreathers out there… But in my opinion the Boris is in a class of it’s own. The other manufactures are really turning up the heat in the rebreather market. You and I as consumers are going to get better / safer /smaller/ lighter / and advanced rebreathers from this competition. Previously owning a stock Inspiration and Hammerhead Inspiration and now diving a Boris. I don’t ever want to go back to over the shoulder counter lungs again! If I’m diving deep that’s the kit I want on my back. I whish I could have the same exact features as a Boris in a KISS sized Kit. The back mounted counter lungs / HUD / and all it’s redundancies are just out of this world. You would really have to dive those electronics for a half of a year to appreciate all it’s features. May be... some day some one will make a kit like that. When I first got the kit I was a little over whelmed with all the electronics features… (I never owned a VR3 before) But as time went on I realized that CCR made some smart / well thought out information to feed the diver. I’m very interested in seeing / hearing about Sentinels performance in the future. I think if you purchase the trimix model it has every thing the Boris electronics has and MORE! It will be interesting to see how the kit works out. Time will tell??? If your in the market for a new kit I would give it a really good look. And I don’t think I gave you a correct answer. So here’s what you need. You have to buy a Apex dry suit CUFF valve. (I'm not sure old style or new style) All you need from this is the back cover. (The female nut piece that screws on the inside of your exhalation counter lung) This cover will hold the OPV in place and the scotch brite round disk filter. If you don’t have this new cover the filter can fallout and float around in the inside of your exhalation counter lung. I also drilled a bigger whole in the center of the cover so there’s less restriction to push out water or air. I don’t have any pictures to show you. The cover is installed in my counter lung. The back cover has a honey comb look to it. CCR machined out the back cover so it looks like a big plastic nut. The reason they did that is to allow a large amount of air flow to escape to pass CE testing. here's a picture of the stock back nut that holds the OPV in place Boris005-2.jpg Here's a picture of the OPV with the back nut piece screwed on (Obviously not connected to the counter lung) Boris001-2.jpg Here's a picture of the filter sitting inside the OPV. You can tell you need something to hold it in place. I'm sure these pictures paint a good image of what you need to do. Boris008.jpg Or.....F**K this filter and just e-mail DR. Mike. He's making and giving to all Boris guys his screen filter. I personally like the scotch Brite filter better because it won’t allow the smallest amount of sofno lime chucks to get stuck under the OPV valve Cheers Frankie |

Actually I am not actively looking (yet) for anything to replace my Vision with DT BMCL, but would be interested in trading some of the compactness / lightness in favor for even-better electronic and even-lower WOB for deep diving.I think I will look more into the Sentinel details. Thanks... |
