What are the accident stats on the Boris? i know the Inspo. is about as safe as walking through Ethipoia with a bag of rice attached to you. The Meg. has a fairly safe record, and The CIS has 4 known incidents, possibly five, so for 10 years of diving that ia a pretty awesome track record. Please respond. Inspiration has sold many thousands for ten years, Meg has sold many hundreds. Cis has sold what.....30!!! and five deaths!! dont sound like good figures to me but thats beside the point. You should ask yourself can I actually buy a cis mk5p! can I get parts for it? and most important does it have validated testing, at least for scrubber duration and WOB? Boris does, so does the Meg, and so does the inspo. Bill Stone is a fine engineer and he is about to release the Mk 6 at Dema, why dont you take a look at that? Im told it is suitable for beginners. just my opinion Dave |

Please respond. not worth the pissing match, but you sound like an 18 year old with his head in the clouds of some fantasy, not one that has done his homework. My experience? over 200 hours on an Inspo dating back to 2003, another 200 or so on a CCR2000, and I just built my own rig, not to mention more than 1300 hours spent underwater, as I dive almost every day as a contract commercial and scientific diver. I was also the Dive Officer for a NOAA facility for a period of time, and have dived the Antarctic. So, once you do your real 'homework' aside from flipping through Nat Geo and the Discovery Channel, you will realize that those folks on Ice island: currently dive Megs, most of the Wakulla 2 folks: currently mostly dive Megs, BBC folks: mostly dive Inspo's, Howard Hall and company: 15.5's, those filimg the Cave: Megs. As for Rich, who I have corresponded with..well, if I had that much time and money invested into one particular unit, I'd stick with it too. If you are looking for a first unit: rEvo Inspiration/Evolution Meg/Copis KISS convert a Dolphin and learn a TON in the process Mk6..maybe? all are as capable as the hands that they fall into. At 18, I doubt you are ready for an expedition caliber unit....or a unit at all...go get your feet wet kiddo I'm signing off...no need to argue or be insulted

![]() ![]() | Re: CIS LUNAR Mark 5P VS. Ouroboros No problem with you being only 18 but where are you with your diving? AFAIK most agencies will want a minimum of Advanced Nitrox before training you on a CCR unit for your own safety. You seem to have decided on one of two units but in reality there are plenty of better choices for your first CCR. There is nothing wrong with an Inspiration/Evolution, and your choice may be better off being made once you've met up with a potential instructor and seen some units first hand. A better question might have been - can anyone recommend a trainer in my locality? - as that may well lead you a more informed choice of unit for your move to Closed Circuit. Best of luck with whatever decision you finally make |

A wise man once told me- "Your first rebreather will not be your last and you will own more than two..."Start with something cheap and practical, you can resell it without loosing much but learning plenty and buy something suitable to the diving you find yourself doing. Dont worry, if you stay with CCR you will buy more than one no matter what you do. Consider that this is an evolving technology, there will always be something new. Even if you buy the absolute top-of-the-line unit today (whichever unit that is), next year there will be something newer and "better".

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: CIS LUNAR Mark 5P VS. Ouroboros You seem to be quite fixed on the Cis. Look if you want something you want it and you'll probably get it eventually since nothing else will satisfy you. However some pretty experienced people have given you their advice and i suggest you listen to them. Also keep in mind that it takes a lot of experience and dives on ccr to reach the point where you would push the envelope on any rebreather, so that is not something you should be concerned as a beginer with no previous experience on mixed gas diving. Go with the unit that pleases you the most but do some more homework and a few try-dives first to get to know different units and have a better perspective. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for all your help. The only reasoning I have to me purchasing the CIS or Boris with my training level is so that by the time I get in to Trimix diving and deeper diving I will already have the Rebreather electronics and main functions down pat. Put into perspective I dont want to train driving a honda so that down the road I will be ready to drive a ferrari. I dont know if this makes any sense, but I figure that if I do all of my technical/cave training on a particular unit at a slow pace I will become a better diver diving that unit and then in turn when adequately experienced can advance to deeper diving with having all my experience on the same rig. Thanks again everyone for all of your help! Sorry if i angered anyone I guess i was being a troll for a little while. Kindest Regards and Best Fishes, A Future Friend (I hope) P.S. Would anyone advise me to go to DEMA??? Last edited by cavediveroneday : 25th October 2007 at 18:33. Reason: Left a word out. |
