| Still Learning.... Current Rebreather/s: | Taking Boris Apart Due to a faulty LED on my HUD (blue so a bit useful!) I am in the process of taking my unit (No.65) apart. Because my HUD lacks an in-line connector I have to return the Pod/HUD/Primary to CCRB. The User's Manual does make it all sound easy but I have found that either because of my own ignorance or the wording of the manual there is a bit more to it than at first sight. I have pestered CCRB (thanks Jason et al) and used as many photo's of other people's efforts (thanks especially to Nad) to enable me to get to the point where it is all nearly apart. I think there are just two more connections to go (see attachment). In order to try and keep track of what I have done so far (in the hope of being able to reverse the exercise later) I've been taking a few photos and extending the User Manual text. On the assumption that sometime in the next couple of weeks I manage to reassemble the unit into something that works if anyone is then interested in the final "Idiot's Guide to Destroying Your Boris" then please let me know. If all goes horribly wrong I will be posting something along the lines of: "Ouroboros parts kit for sale"!! ![]()

![]() | Re: Taking Boris Apart Hi Ant, Don't be scared of it is my advice. It's pretty robust. Follow the user guide and it'll all be fine. The first time (and only!) time I've stripped it down to remove the centre section took under an hour and getting it back together is about 40 mins. Just make sure you're methodical and save all the parts somewhere safe! Rich |

Rich but thanks for the advice.I am nearly there now and I have to say that although I wouldn't recommend it if it isn't necessary, unless you are supremely confident, it has so far been (as someone recently said) "...a learning opportunity". Rich is quite right that in terms of total time it takes surprisingly little (I guess about an hour so far) but I have taken a lot of breaks (some because of other things to do, some to take photos or take notes, some to just have a think and occasionally take the time to e-mail CCRB (the stupid question is the one you didn't ask beforehand). One piece of advice is - don't talk to a KISS owner about taking a rebreather apart. They do it so often that they can't understand what all the fuss is about!

Hi Ant, You have to be scared when after reassembling Boris, you still find some screw or pieces around... I'm happy that my pictures gave you an help. Like Phil I had the same problem the first time I disassembled it: no coverage of the solenoid part in the manual. However you will do it perfectly. Cheers Nad

FWIW You're brother and I spent ages getting the CK's apart the first time so if he gets to ragging on you, you can remind him of that ![]() |
