DeltaP and CCRb

After many discussions and articles on many other subjects, I think it is time to write something about those two companies.
We still have to thank them about the VR3, some years ago, when the only way to dive were tables. They developed a friendly and easy system, many times misunderstood.
What we do have there, is a little and well organised industry. A huge background with engineers, tech divers, and professionals working for us every day and trying to make dives safer.
- There is a workshop with machines for building almost every piece of the VR3, VR2 and Ouroboros.
- There is an engineer who follow all the process.
- Downstairs, there is a store for the many spare parts for VR3, VR2 and Ouroboros, and a laboratory for Boris.
- Upstairs, there is the office with enough skilled, knowledgeable and friendly people to follow the request of all the users around.
- Then last, but not least, the electronic laboratory, where every single electronic part is assembled and tested.
I went there with Boris for service and what I found was something looking like a surgery hall; every tool needed was ready and perfectly placed on the table, I suddenly knew that it was in good hands. Boris the Builder was really friendly and he just missed a surgeon green uniform. In 15 minutes Boris was disassembled. Wow!
I also gave them a VR3 for repair; everything done in few hours.
I was then ready to drive back, directly home, for 1400 km, after a happy night in Poole!
I spoke before about misunderstanding and I’ll try to explain it.
I find the PIN system ok, if you would like to upgrade your VR later, that’s it. Otherwise you can still dive it exactly as you brought it. With this system you don’t need to buy a super computer that gives you too much for what you need and maybe you never will.
So little by little you can build up your dive experience and your computer along.
The Dealers
The VR computers have many options; but most of the time a user buys a product from a dealer that doesn’t really know what he’s selling and then we have the first kind of problems.
Options are just what the word says – options. Something that is nice to have but you don’t always need them to dive the VR. Many times the user may buy the wrong option because he doesn’t have any support.
As example at the EUDI show in Italy a girl came to me because she brought a VR for the Azimut and the dealer sold her a C4 (Trimix CC), with cable. Then she was told that she would need the PIN for activation. The problem is that, for the Azimut, Voyager and this kind of Rebreather you just need a C1 if you dive nitrox or C3 if you dive Trimix, the cable and the PIN to activate the sensor.
At the moment that a VR goes out of the factory, it is complete with all software available at that moment so you won’t need to send it back for upgrade; you just need a PIN to activate it or, eventually other hardware.
For all software made later you will, of course, need to ship the VR back; also as for some hardware.
Every VR is pressure tested before it leaves and has a personal complete history for every serial number. There are already PIN numbers for every option and dedicated just to that computer. No confusion. You can just call and they give it to you (money requested).
Solution - Be informed about what you want to buy before you do it! Personal
I wonder how many of us read the user manual supplied with every electronic device we buy… We have to try to read everything so we can discover that we can change the buttons, the battery, etc by our self. I know people (not just one) that discovered the possibility to change the buttons just when I told them!
Solution - Read the user manual, read the FAQ on the DeltaP website
Delta P work really quickly! If you send a unit to the factory the service is done in few hours. So why are there people complaining of having to wait too long?
The Dealer
Most of the time many dealers just have to wait to have enough items to send back. They can then share the shipping costs.
Solution - Ask before about timing, eventually contact the factory directly Yourself
You have to be aware of Customs. If Customs don’t find a declaration of the item’s value they often keep the product in their office until you do it. The better way is a shipping professional like UPS, TNT, etc.
Solution - As told go with a professional or stay with the dealer if it is ok
It is not my goal to offend anyone, there also are many serious dealers around; however it is up to the user to learn about the product. But I feel bad when I see, hear and read bad criticism due, most of the time, to lack of knowledge.
All this could suit every piece of equipment, device, etc
However I’m sure DeltaP and CCRb will reserve us more surprises in the future…
Stay tuned.
Thanks to Kev, Jason, Steven, Al, Frida, Simon and all the rest of the stuff for their support.
