It is a very trim, handsome unit, congratulations on all the progress. Some more questions for you though: How easy is it to reach the OPV? Given the fragile tissue in the lungs, I have often wondered about the safety of having an OPV in a hard to reach place or worse yet, one that can't be reached at all. I have had to manually activate the drysuit style OPV on my OTS lungs in some instances where I hit violent up/down currents as venting through my nose alone was not fast enough to slow an out of control ascent. For this reason, I consider easy access to the OPV essential for diving in difficult conditions. Your thoughts? What are the dimensions of your EACs in their packaging? Do they come individually wrapped or boxed in quantity? -Andy |

It is a very trim, handsome unit, congratulations on all the progress. Thanks. It is optimised for trim, but as for handsome - you have not seen the back cover Some more questions for you though: How easy is it to reach the OPV? Given the fragile tissue in thel ungs, I have often wondered about the safety of having an OPV in a hard to reach place or worse yet, one that can't be reached at all. Do they come individually wrapped or boxed in quantity? -Andy ![]() I'm afraid the OPV is not easy to reach (reachable, but not easy at all). If the diver were to manage to get off the surface with the OPV shut after their pos pressure test and failed to check it, then it would not be possible to open it during the dive: the diver would have to vent through their nose, and failing that, through their mouth, and failing that to bail out. These are normal skills anyway. will proof of training be required? Will existing CCR cert be accepted, which agency will you be training through. Training is the bottleneck just now. There will be cross over training for existing instructors (CCR, of any type). Showing a cert is not a prerequisite for the sale, but the waiver will be absolutely clear and there is a wrapper over the unit that says that using it without having received and following proper training is tantamount to suicide: just like someone who buys a helicopter and then decides to fly it without training. One can buy a helicopter without training, so there is no difference here. On EACs, right now they come in 5 inch diameter tubes, about 200mm long, individually wrapped, but usually in a box of four together. There is a change to the packing planned to improve their robustness, that supports further individual wrapping and shipment. This is going to be very interesting. The Dolphin did not cause this: the opposite, opening the market. Companies simply transform and adapt. It should open up a lot of new opportunities, if successful. We hope it starts to bring down the accident rates and makes rebreather diving more accessible: it will certainly be a test of the mCCR philosophy - at the moment we has stats showing that the probability of an mCCR being as dangerous or worse than an eCCR is over 8300:1, but the reasons for this are unclear (training, enforcing the user to monitor their metabolism, breathing etc, or user group selection: no-one knows). We are trying to reduce the risks further by good monitoring, but no-one knows the territory we are entering here with more mCCR divers. If this machine lives up to promises, it will probably put half the tech/sport rebreather manufacturers out of business. | So much more to learn ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: O.R. Sports Specs, and more news Dimensions and prices as promised. mCCR complete, $995 Rebreather monitor, including CO2 monitoring and hypoxia risk monitoring, Euro 995. These are sold separately. Cylinder protectors shown are an optional extra: they are for anti-snag around wrecks. Photos of these will be posted later today, along with the other pictures. | So much more to learn ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: O.R. Sports Specs, and more news Pics below, as promised. First pic: Unit sideways showing low profile on diver and tidy hose routing, clean front. Second pic: eCCR cap (Rebreather Monitor almost same without the 2 injectors at bottom and scrubber stick in centre), showing 4 sensors PSR-11-39-DL type, fully moulded, batteries external to loop (stainless steel tubles left and right at bottom), spring clamp for shock mounting scrubber to frame at bottom. All injection moulded. Third pic: Unit on floor, showing ergonomic back profile (moulded), webbing harness. Already had a query on this: yes, there are normally D rings fitted to the webbing at the bottom next to the frame for bail outs. First stage regs are inboard, and there is a filling port below (covered with neoprene sleeve in photo, but visible in diagram). Carrying handle is normally the carbon fibre on on the commercial rebreathers: Aluminium one here was part of a lifting trial (to lift a 350kg weight and rebreather in the harness). Belt has lots of space to add extras, like gear bag pockets. On the sports version (alone), there is deliberately no T-piece inside for dry suit hose or BCD, so people do not fly it "alpine style" - they can fit one easily, but when they run out of gas as a result, it is their own fault. The sides do take cylinders up to 10 litres, though they stick up a bit. Total weight ready to dive, with twin 2 litre cylinders, EAC fitted, tanks, harness is 17kg. More later today showing the moulded tank covers. Unit in photo has neoprene tank cover. Last edited by AD_ward9 : 24th July 2008 at 07:18. Reason: What is it that the Rebreather World editor has with spaces all of a sudden? |
