did you swap your MK2 reg with DS4?

hello guys,

as ISC officially started promoting its units with DS4 regulators, for all those that had purchased their unit before, (they came with MK2s ) did you swap them for DS4 or did you stay with the ones you had (MK2s)? in case you did, can you explain why you did this?

am thinking, as to what ups and down there may be to my existing regs, instead of the DS4...

Thanks

Spyros

Re: did you swap your MK2 reg with DS4?

my high pressure swivel popped one day, so i now have a dst on the o2 and a mk2 with a pony gauge on it for pressure. found the mk2 fine, but was very wary of the swivel going again and loosing all, or some, at least of my gas.

the dst lines the hoses up pretty well, but is noticeably heavier.

I've had US4's on mine since new. They've been in water from 4degC to 30degC and work fine. Hose alignment is good and they are nice and compact.
Easy access to spares are well.

Hi Spyros.

I changed my MK2s to MK11s.
I did this mainly to avoid the HP elbows but also to get a slightly better routing of hoses.

Cheers

My MK2s are paid for & haven't missed a beat. Compared to the Sherwoods in the stock MK15- which do the job fine- they are downright exotic. Simple as dirt to work on. My swivels are M&J- there are none better. I have no plans to change either.

Re: did you swap your MK2 reg with DS4?

I don't believe there was anything wrong with the scubapro regs and the change was made because the COPIS required a non-compensating IP reg and that is easy to accomplish with the DS4

It has nothing to do with balanced, fixed IP is where the absolute pressure of the first stage does not increase with ambient. Most regs IP goes up as you go deeper. This is not desirable in a mCCR such as the COPIS as it would cause the O2 level to rise. Performance of a reg used in a CCR (unless you have a BOV) is of very little consequence. Even the worst regs should perform well enough for a CCR gas requirements.
ISC changed brands to accomodate the COPIS and it makes no sense to use 2 different brands in house.

Re: did you swap your MK2 reg with DS4?

Hey Spyros,

I emailled ISC and asked the question as I was wanting to standardise all my regs and wanted to have all APEKS.

The reply I got back was that they use DS4 O2 cleaned regs which are exactally the same as the ones you can buy with the only difference being the bottom nut which they specially made for ISC to make them look a bit "Cooler" than the standard ones.

I have had mine fitted for a while now and am pleased to say they have been working perfectly so far.

Have fun diving the HMS Victoria!!!! And I expect to see plenty of pics

Regards,

Lance
