Schrader Valve Failure @ 100 Hours/Dives

This is just a heads-up for everyone to check your Schrader valves on the Meg ADV. I've had mine recently go out at 100 hours/dives. It seems apparent that the spring failed (see attached pic with bad [left] and good [right] valve). It was a ever-so-slight leak and only caught by the very design of the checklist. So, as Ron likes to harp on , using the checklist catches problems and keeps you safely in the water.

I've gone through two Meg ADV schrader valves already. I keep half a dozen in my meg spare parts kit now.

Is the ADV one of those items that should be overhauled every 6-12 months like the DSV...?

I guess if you wanted to be proactive about it, it wouldn't hurt. I'd probably set it up for a annual servicing. But, I've never seen/heard anything that said it was required.

This looks like the same valve that is in a LP BC hose. Do you know if it's the same p/n? It also looks like the shaft is bent more than just the spring failed.

The shaft isn't bent. The picture is deceiving.

Re: Schrader Valve Failure @ 100 Hours/Dives

Same failure I had after some 150 hrs. Part of the yearly overhaul, and monthly inspection.

Thanks for the info, I will keep a close eye on my Schrader valve from now on.

Cheers

Re: Schrader Valve Failure @ 100 Hours/Dives

Damn. I was just up at FillExpress looking at the Meg parts inventory and saw them there. I should have picked one up. Oh well. My constant need of gas makes me visit that parts counter often.

All I walked away with was two large Meg decals and an OPRV. Oh, and the 7 bottles of gas of course!
