2.01x to 2.06 ugrade

Has anyone performed the above-mentioned electronics upgrade? How much was it, and was it worth it?

My 2 year old beaten and battered Meg (that still works fine) will likely go to the hatchery soon for some repairs and upgrade (and maybe some new neoprene CL's).

Speaking of which, how do you like the neoprene's?

I think Steve mentioned $100 for the upgrade. Mine is coming close to its second birthday too. Maybe they should have birthday party.

Gilles,

I just returned from diving in the RED SEA with my Meg and have just sent off my meg head which has the 2.01k version to get the software upgrade (ice is now on our lakes). Yes, it is $100 USD for the upgrade.

Was talking to Steve at ISC today and that's all you really need to do if you have the 2.01 version.

Hey guys,

hope you are fine. i am thinking about doing the 2.06 upgrade myself. through this thread, we find out that is about 100 USD cost, but what are really the differences?

Gilles, has it crossed your mind to upgrade to 2.5?

Version numbers are confusing.... From a functionality standpoint 2.5 is identical to 2.06. (I think)

Hardware wise... I think there are three major versions of the APECS
Wattmiser Solenoid w/ one computer box
Jaksa Solenoid w/ one computer box
2.5 = Jaksa Solenoid w/ two computer boxes

Think of 2.06 as a service pack which can be applied to the older heads to make them functionaly equivilent to the latest shipping rigs while still differentiating 'versions' as a hw/sw combination....

2.5 is a hardware upgrade. 2.06 is a software upgrade that gives the meg the functionality of a 2.5 without the hardware. I expect there will be future upgrades that will require the 2.5 hardware and will leave us 2.01 folks behind, For now though I believe the 2.06 will work the same as a 2.5 from the user's perspective.

For those who have gotten the upgrade and, hopefully, used it: What does the 2.06 do above and beyond the 2.01 that would make me want it? Do you find it worth the trouble/ expense?

Some menu changes. Altitude adjustment is embedded in the calibration branch of the menu tree. The most significant change is the injection period. The solenoid on/off period is depth variable but since there is no depth sensor it responds to what effect the injection has on the loop PPO2 and adjusts the cycle accordingly. The HUD gives solid red below .5 now since 8 flashes are somewhat meaningless. There is a change in the battery saving mode that the backlighting can be set to stay on and sleep mode can be deactivated.
That's all I can think of but I haven't upgraded yet. I have not decided if I need to.
