Some menu changes. Altitude adjustment is embedded in the calibration branch of the menu tree. The most significant change is the injection period. The solenoid on/off period is depth variable but since there is no depth sensor it responds to what effect the injection has on the loop PPO2 and adjusts the cycle accordingly. The HUD gives solid red below .5 now since 8 flashes are somewhat meaningless. There is a change in the battery saving mode that the backlighting can be set to stay on and sleep mode can be deactivated.
That's all I can think of but I haven't upgraded yet. I have not decided if I need to.
Thanks Dave,

but i am looking out for someone who did upgrade and can tell us a few things... i am also a bit confused if i want it or not...

Thanks.

2.5 is a hardware upgrade. 2.06 is a software upgrade that gives the meg the functionality of a 2.5 without the hardware. I expect there will be future upgrades that will require the 2.5 hardware and will leave us 2.01 folks behind, For now though I believe the 2.06 will work the same as a 2.5 from the user's perspective.

Given the scope of work I intend is "overhaul" in nature, perhaps a 2.5 upgrade is in order. Time and money depending, I'd combine this with a Meg Technician training.

Does anyone have an idea what this (2.5 upgrade) may cost?

Gilles hi,

i hope you are well. i am along those lines as you are, but keep thinking, if 2.06 is the same as 2.5, then why ISC made the 2.5? do you think there will be a step further, like an upgrade to the version 3?

if you find out any more info on the matter, please inform.

Thanks.

Re: 2.01x to 2.06 ugrade

I just bought a refurbished lid for my meg (as a spare lid). It came with Apecs 2.5. The most significant change I see is the ASP (Automatic Setpoint Adjust). I don't know if the 2.06 upgrade will give you that.
As far as the cost of a 2.5 upgrade.... It depends on which version you have. They will most likely have to replace the solenoid and it is possible that the lid will have to be machined if your lid is an older one. My Meg originally came with Apecs 1.0. When I asked about upgrading, Jerry told me it would take quite a bit of work (expensive). So I opted to buy the refurb lid ($3600, retail).
2.5 also is in a different potting. It will lend itself readily to future upgrades in both software (Apecs 3.0) and hardware.

Re: 2.01x to 2.06 ugrade

Just attended an instructor update a couple weeks ago and spoke to Leon about the upgrades. ISC is shipping 2.5 and they have already done some of the 2.06 updates for people with older versions. Again, 2.06 is software only. If you want to know the specifics call Jerry (Genereal Manager), at ISC. I believe the $100 is correct for the software only update, but I'm sure the price of upgrading to 2.5 will vary depending on how old your lid is.

That's nice that you were able to get that info at an instructor update. However, for those that are not priveledged to be a part of that group, how are we supposed to be informed?

I call Jerry when it's necessary but do I need to call him every week to find out what is new? I'm sure he doesn't want 500 people calling him every week just to ask that question. It doesn't seem productive.

Re: 2.01x to 2.06 ugrade

I guess the most easily accessible source of info on ISC products is the web site. The following is a quote from that site:

"Version 2.5 is the latest general release of the software and also incorporates significant changes to the electronics hardware and wiring. To help insure the continued viability of previous APECS™ 2.X systems ISC is also releasing APECS™ 2.06 which is compatible with most of the previous hardware versions and incorporates the software features of APECS™ 2.5. "

In my last post, I wasn't speaking to how the general public finds this stuff out. The question i was answering was "How do you guys know......?"

I just spoke with Leon on Sunday at the South Florida Dive Show, Rebreather Summit and he said that 2.06 does indead come with the ASP feature. You need to have the Jaksa solenoid to do the upgrade and he confirmed it would set me back $100 US to have the upgrade done.
