Ok i use transplate, ss backplate, diverite side mount for my bail out (40 cubic ) rec wing with rite source. so far so good, I ,have 27 cubic bottles, I am thinking about convert to the fx with the smaller bottles and I guess we will see how this works out. But I must say I love the o2ptima

I dive mine with the 27's, a SS plate with a Transplate harness, Rec wing and I only put 2 pounds in each trim pocket when diving dry in fresh water. Perfect trim and bouyancy.

Re: Optima -- what kind of harness/BP/wings?

I am using a Transpac, Rec Wing, and the Nomad side-mount plate for my bailouts. As on the Nomad wing I have shortened the Gusset cord to constrain only the top of the wing; this way I get the lift around my waist at my bailouts and not behind my head where I already have enough. Using the 27s, (2) 80s for bailouts, and a wet or drysuit trim is perfect.

Red face Re: Optima -- what kind of harness/BP/wings?

Firstly let me say that all most all of my diving is in temperate waters wearing a dry suit. I used to use a TransPac (and still do for travelling) but have recently gone to a TransPlate harness as I wanted the extra weight of the back plate. With each configuration I use a RecWing and two 40cft ali stage cylinders, this now allows me to use the same weight with each configuration and this make me happy
Regards,
John

Re: Optima -- what kind of harness/BP/wings?

I use the DR Transplate, SS plate and the Recwing.
I stripped down the harness of things I did not need, as I like a clean, neat configuration, as much as that's posibble with a CCR.
I find the 2 buckles on either side useful and efficient for getting in and out of the harness.
The Rec wing is small and well streamlined.
I added Tobin's D-rings on the harness under the CL's, which for me makes it really easy to attach BO bottles.
In cold waters, (dry suit), ie: the Great Lakes, I use the 27 cu ft LP steel, with no additional weight needed.
In warm waters ie: Florida, Mexico or the Bahamas. I use 13 cu ft AL and require some additional weight, which I enclose in 2 small pockets attached to the small rings on either side of the cover.
I am somewhat biased but I really like and enjoy the way this unit dives!

Talking Re: Optima -- what kind of harness/BP/wings?

Thanks a lot for all the feedback.

My Optima FX has finally arrived, and I'll start my training on Thursday with "n2diving" aka Mark from FillExpress. I will try the Transpac with a Venture Wing. If I hate it, there's always Ebay

I will soon get an Optima, and I need to decide what harness/BP/wing to use. For OC, I'm using a continuous webbing, with either a SS or plastic BP, and a single or double tank wing (all from Deep Sea Supplies). I like this setup quite a lot.

I was told that the majority of Optima divers use a Transpac. I looked at the Transpac, and it seems very convoluted to me. Too much useless padding, quick-releases, chest-strap, and what-not. However, I have never tried it, so my first impression might be wrong. Also, there is a butt-plate for the transpac for sidemount, which seems to be a nice option to carry bailout.

What are the Optima divers on this board using?
yo

I am using a stainless steel backplate with an all through webbing, a Dive Rite venture wing and 13cft alm tanks.

greetings
Matt
