Why not try a dive without the bezel and see what happens (keep handset out of direct sunlight when not in use).. My original AL units came without the bezels (they weren't ready yet) I'll give it a try. Good idea.If it works opening up the bezel hole a bit would probably then work.., it doesnt take much pressure to register a meter or so... |

After surfacing the depth sensor still gives a depth indication. And yes, I did fill up the hole with silicone. I only have the problem when I dive in salty or murky water. It is not the depth sensor, since I replaced it with a new one Kevin sent. I'm suspecting a small misallignment of the hole in the metal bezel and the hole underneath in the plastic hole. This could create a smaller overlapping area, where salt or other particles get too easily trapped. I'm going to make the hole in the SS bezel bigger. This should fix it, if this caused the problem. Let me know how you make out. I have the exact same problem.I tried to contact Kevin via e-mail and phone several times to get their input on this issue but apparently he is too busy again .Last edited by sensor330 : 13th June 2006 at 04:05. |

I have the exact same problem. i went ahead and made the hole slightly bigger. My next saltwater dive is this weekend in the Northsea. I'll keep you informed on the results. I did find some salt/particles stuck inside the hole. Very strange since I soacked that handset for over an hour in fresh water immediately after the dive. I covered the hole with a whitish silicone to prevent UV to reach the sensor. What do you guys think of starting a FAQ on the HH? A lot of people seem to suffer from the same problems. Having the problems out in the open will help other users and improve the product long term. Peter |

It can also include other tips and suggestions as well. For example: "Just how does one go about applying the conductive grease to insure proper battery contact?" Other questions and tips like this would be great to discuss. |

A lot of problems that can up usally have a very simple solution. I spoke to Kevin Today,SO far EVERY unit they has shown some depth at the surface has had either foreign matter or salt crystals partially blocking the sensor.. Most have been OK after just removing the bezels, and cleaning.. Units should be immediately rinsed with fresh water before crystals can form.. Once formed they do not dissolve that easily.. especially since there is VERY little watter exchange (without removing bezels).. As to mis alignment, that probably isnt an issue just that the holes are so small and if particles get in there they cant get out easily... (Kevin says he may have the holes at the pressure tranducr enlarged, I think its easier to just do it on the bezel, so it can be cleaned easier) As to the deep depth readings, Its an indication that there is some moisture that has made it past the pressure transducer and shorted the sensor.. This has to be sent back to JM.. The indication that removing the sensor harness didn't change the value, is exactly what happens.. For the last 2 or 3 months he now conformally coats the pressure transducer..
