As if by magic I appear as Lou would say.
Indeed I saved that little gem with the durations.
Easy to find if you search for MP's posts, there aren't that many.

As you say Joe, PCO2 is the critical issue. What you write about the CE standards though is incorrect.

The standards specify testing to 5mbar and 10mbar pressure of CO2 which is pretty clearly a PCO2. (Section 6.6.2). These levels are actually 0.5%SE and 1.0%SE which some will refer to. In this case "SE" - surface equivalent is completely relevant but I agree a misleading term. It actually means 5mbar is 0.25% at 10m, 0.125% at 30m, 0.0625% at 70m, etc. and is the value you measure on our super accurate mass spectrometers or analysers - which incidentally are calibrated

Incidentally, the EN14143 requires the breather to be tested at a range of depths too, there isn't one endurance test done at the surface.

At the moment there are only three rebreathers jumped through the EN14143 hoops that I am aware of: The Inspiration, Evolution and the Oroborous (forgive me if I have spelt it wrong).

The Inspiration's time on nominal 2.5kg sofnolime at 20m is 180mins in 4C, at 100m it is 82 mins to 5 mbar. The Oroboros on nominal 2.75kg of sofnolime is 210 mins at 15m and 90 mins at 100m again to 5 mbar.
The Evolution (2.0 kg) is 120 mins and 55 mins.

So clearly depth does have an affect on scrubber duration.
I've seen a bunch of graphs from scrubber breaksthrough, axial, radial and annular axial. The axial have the steepest curve, so I concur with Joe on that issue:
Once they're gone, they're gone fast!

Re: Need info on Optima

If I buy a rebreather, and I am going to, be it the optima or a Prism or an Inspiration, or even a meg, do I get to talk like you guys? Believe it or not, after all I ahve read on this thread, I may go back to looking at the Inspiration/ evolution. The scrubber analysis is what did it. What's the deal on the point I havbe heard that they are not as well built as the others. As far as the Prism goes, as I said before, I want a unit before my wife has to wipe the drool off my face and help me into my clothing. What about used units?

Jeffrey,
If it's the scrubber Tesing data that's pushing you towards the Inspiration, AFAIK SMI have US navy test data on the Prism Scrubber that they are happy to discuss with prospective customers. Also ISC are currently putting the meg through CE testing, once this is complete similar info should also be available.
CE test data is also available for the 'boris, but price-wise it's in a completely diferent ballpark!
