Horrible Service from Dive Rite

I have one of the first Optima units that were released. So needless to say my hand sets started to corrode after the first few dives in the ocean. The first timse I called Dive Rite the person who answered the phone told me that Dive Rite is not responsible for the handsets and to call Jurgensen, the person was actually kind of rude about it. After a couple of calls I got Kevin Jurgenson on the phone who was totally cool and said he wuold completly stand behind the handsets but I had to go throught Dive Rite.

When I called Dive Rite I explained I needed them back in three weeks as I was leaving on a trip. I even gave myself an extra couple of days in case thing were delayed. I was told at that time it would not be a problem.

I called Dive Rite several times after April 17 the day I told them I needed them back. Each time I was assured that they would be done and sent to me the next day. Finally on Thursaday after the person from Dive Rite did not call me back at the end of the day as he stated, I called them. That is when I found out it would be another week. Needless to say I am pretty pissed about being given a total run around.

I spoke to Kevin on Friday from Jurgensen, who again was really cool and told me he does not even have any new cases for another couple of days.

One of the reasons I purchased an Optima was Dive Rite has always had great customer support and turn around.

I wish they would have been honest with me as I had to cancel my trip.

A very unhappy customer.

Sorry to hear about your problem.. I would have followed it up after sending it to DR with an email to doug & Kevin.. They are usually upfront with the status of stock, and always try to make allowances for people who HAVE to have units by a specific date once they know about it..

Not all units are being completely replaced, only units were the corrision issue was most likely caused by a problem with the plating.. Most of the Nikel units are fine but there are some with problems.. Units that have corrosion becuase of chipping caused by impacts are not being replaced FOC..

The "corrosion" although it may not look pretty, it should stop once the al oxide layer is formed (the handsets are made out of the same alloy as al tanks), it shouldnt spread further.. The only issue is if the bezels weren't replaced with the SS ones.. Bezels were given to DR to replace on all units that got the aluminum bezels.. The al bezels did corrode heavily (possibly the wrong alloy by the machineist)

I will have something to say about this issue shortly. I will tell all that there is to tell then. I will explain why I am saying nothing now at that time.

One thing I wanted to add. Except for Dive Rite stranding me land bound. I happen to be very happy with my unit. I hope in the future they can get the service issues and turn-around worked out.

Now that there is a system and we all know who/where to send your unit to (you were the first person to have to send your unit)...things will go more smoothly. As far as your due date, we did everything we could to get it back to you in time -- We are only as fast as our vendor is. In your case, from the reports that we got, we honestly thought your unit would be finished by your due date. I'm sorry it wasn't.

Cheers, Jordan
