ADV Shut-Off Valve issues

The shut-off valve that came on my unit was really stiff and almost impossible to operate so i bot In-Line Shutoff Slide Valve - Supplied by OmniSwivel International,-it proved to be impossible to operate-needed to go to bail-out and pull rig around some to use botn frigging hands to close it! I would avoid this one if u are wearing drysuits, thick undergarments.... going to find a smoother version.

Re: ADV Shut-Off Valve issues

Hey Jon,

Dive Rite gets their from Omni Swivel - its the same valve.

I have never had a problem with mine, nor have I heard any of the other Optima divers here complain about it. They might be a tad stiff, but certianly not a 2-handed operation.

Next time you're down here, bring the original one in and we'll look at it.

when i was in florida in dec. i was able to take care of it -but either the cold water, or lack of mobility from drysuit makes them both an issue. also a lack of flexability on my part too!

Re: ADV Shut-Off Valve issues

just wondering -might the 37 dg. water temp. be causing these to get stiff? (gee that sounds funny?)

Re: ADV Shut-Off Valve issues

Hi Jon,
I have been having the same problem with the shut off on my Meg. I did the lube thing and it helped but it still would stiffen up after a couple of dives. Andy showed me how to split apart and disassemble the valve, I was then able to clean all the surfaces and lube it with some O2 lube. It has been working better but it still gets hung up at times. I found that by rotating the sleeve it would free up and operate more efficiently. It now works ok with one hand (heavy glove and cold water).
By the way I also bought another shut off last year to see if it was just an anomaly and low and behold it was not any better. So just split it, clean all parts, and relube before reassembly.
See you soon on the SeaTurtle.

I have been using these for years without any problems whatsoever.. is it possible that it is rubbing against a hose or something solid..
in very cold water its gets a little stiff but not a 2 handed operation... just had a student using it in dutch yesterday (43f) with very little problems other than him getting used to diveing with gloves and heavy undergarments (he is from a very warm climate!)

ABout every 6 months I take mine apart and relube with cristolube...
