| My unit can beat up yours Current Rebreather/s: | Re: O2tima Checklists I didn't do my training with Mark D., but when I first dove with the SCRUBs in Florida and saw the laminated last-minute checklists I liked the idea. Adrian was kind enough to give me an extra that he had. My only problem was that diving up here, the little card usually finds its way to the bottom of my box and isn't in my hand while I'm doing the last bit of kitting up. I wanted something to remind me of the last critical items to double and triple check that would be right in front of my face and hard to ignore, so I printed these labels up on waterproof vinyl adhesive and covered them with clear tape. They will likely only last one season before getting chewed up and illegible, but then I can just make a new set. I wear both the primary and secondary strapped on both wrists, so I can't possibly avoid seeing these as I get my last bits secured.

I am curious that your pre-dive checklist does not include a check on the correct operation of the DSV one-way valves. If checking of loop integrity by way of negative and positive pressure tests is warranted, shouldn't verification of correct gas flow direction also be checked? This check also appears to be missing from the Diverite "Survival" pre-dive checklist. Regards, Tony |

Only I'd have to make them a bit smaller as the new light weight, dual deco, battery reading, ss hand opening battery door, Delrin Handsets are a bit smaller than the old style antique handsets! ![]() Richie |

The survival check list assumes the rig is already assembled, and a quick verification is done.. The one way vales are spposed to be thoroughly tested on the initial assembly for the day...

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: O2tima Checklists Hi Joe, Mushroom valves and loop integrity are both checked post assembly but only loop integrity needs rechecking? I guess it turns on the effort/risk of re-opening the loop (fairly easy to do on an O2ptima) with the risk that operation of the mushroom valves has been compromised between unit assembly and doing the dive. No right or wrong answer, but it appears that the training agencies/instructors are settling on different approaches. Regards, Tony |

The survival checklist is mainly that.. The rig is assembled already and a quick verification that everything is still ok..Mushroom valves and loop integrity are both checked post assembly but only loop integrity needs rechecking? I guess it turns on the effort/risk of re-opening the loop (fairly easy to do on an O2ptima) with the risk that operation of the mushroom valves has been compromised between unit assembly and doing the dive. No right or wrong answer, but it appears that the training agencies/instructors are settling on different approaches. Regards, Tony one way valves do not fail often, and when they do its usually a cleaning issue.. The main reasons for one way valve failure is debris in the valve - usually sorb dust or granules.. this is not generally not a concern for optima divers.. warped valves.. this can occur when using hot water to clean the hoses.. these problems are highly unlikely to occur after the unit has been tested and assembled.. a leakey mushroom valve could also be a damaged spyder.. once its in the DSV its not likely to break... this type of failure would be caught on the full predive check.. You can do a quickie test thats not perfect by alternating and squeezing the hoses and breathing/blowing..

If checking of loop integrity by way of negative and positive pressure tests is warranted, shouldn't verification of correct gas flow direction also be checked? I have assembly and post assembly checklists as well, but these are not yet published. The mushroom checks are in the assembly checklist, while the loop is open. It's possible to do something of a post assembly check on the mushrooms when the loop is assembled by squeezing hoses, but it's fairly redundant. There are plenty more items that could be checked too... however they are not intended to be comprehensive. Add whatever checks you feel are important.-- Mark |
