Optima FX Upgrade and Questions

Hi Everyone,

Just received my upgrade from Dive-Rite to the FX case. They were very efficient in their turn around, receiving the unit back in about 10 days with gound shiping both ways from Maine. Excellent Service.

A I have a silly question though concerning the positioning of the tanks (I am using steel 27's). The bottom bracket/stand apears not to be adjustable? The steel 27's do not fit that well (they are tight to the bottom and the canister), and I was wondering if I am doing something wrong here? Before playing with it too much, I figured I would ask the question.

I remember seeing a similar discussion thread but I could not locate it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

there should hav been another hole to create some more space between the valve/regulators and the bottom stand. when it is fully loaded -the steel piece flexes and it bottoms out. need to watch it especially when moving it around. i am hoping that i will be getting a new frame of aluminum shortly that will solve all of this.

Re: Optima FX Upgrade and Questions

That foot is a horrible design, and truthfully the whole concept of the adjustable foot is just stupid. If they were concerned that much about the 1.5 inch difference in height, they should have made 2 different backplate sizes.

To make the foot go down enough for the 27's, you need to remove the bolt which your backplate or harness bolts onto, slide the foot down, and put the bolt back through the hole in the foot. The end result is having a gap between the 2 parts of the foot's angle bracket. It looks pretty ghetto.

Check out the Optima backplate Don is designing:

Having seen it firsthand, it is a much better solution than the ABS one the Optima comes with.

Here's one of the threads.... It has some Photo's too on the second & third pages.

It's one of the first things I did when I got my unit. After 50 hours it still strong as a rock. Even with the Steel Tanks it gave me lot's of space between the regs & foot. Makes life a lot easier.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think I am fortunate since I work with Welders and Machinists every week. I'll have a few of them tackle it for me. I just happen to have the SS stock lying around my house.

Short term, I may just use a spacer.

Thanks again
