There is no granular scrubber being tested as of now, a granular scrubber with the same form factor will not provide the same duration as the cartridge and a larger scrubber will not fit in the soft pack so DR opted to cartridge only at least for the forseeable future.

Chris, why do you say a granular scrubber wont provide the same duration?
Is there any test data on the catridge scrubber avalible for the Optima?

Hi Dave,

I haven't seen the actual prototype they made for the granular scrubber but that was what they told me. They do have actual data and test results on the cartridges and Tom McKenna told me that DR should be releasing test data shortly.

I meant a prototype for the extended cartridge, earlier I stated that there would be no granular scrubber.

Don't know anything abou that one either, the same would apply to it not fitting the existing package or scrubber cannister in either length or diameter but it's a brave new world so who knows what is really down the pike

The extended cartridge can be built but I don't expect Lamar and Rudi to do any major changes till the first 200 are built and sold. You have to keep the horse in front of the cart.

According to the O2ptima manager there was plenty of testing done at various depths to 300 fsw.
He also promised that quite some of it will be released to the public.

Regarding cartridges vs. granular scrubber, Steam Machines experimented with cartridges (not the Micropore ExtendAir cartridge!) several years ago. They were tested in the original PRISM-1 axial scrubber, the MK15.5's annular axial cannister. The duration was better than the axial scrubber, but didn't match the 5.4 lbs radial Topaz or the annular axial cannister performance.

So Chris could very well be correct that using granular absorbant might shorten duration.

Re: Alleged "Optional cartridge extender to double CO2 time"

For you guys have one idea, I was mesuring my O2ptima scruber internal espace to calculate more or less how much of sofnolime would fit and I arrive to the conclusion that space would fit something more or less of the same size used on the Frog CCR and this is rate to just 90 minutes!!!!!!
