I am learning on AL13 in warm wetsuit water in Florida and my trim/weighting seem to be fine. I am hoping to use the LP27 for dry suit diving in new england. I used to dive double 100's w/SS plate with crushed Neoprene Dry suit with insulated undergarments. Dove with an additional 14 Lbs lead and ankle weights.data: 3mm full wetsuit + AL80 + 6 lbs dry suit + 300 underg. + LP80 + SS backplate + STA + 14 lbs dry suit + 300 underg. + 2xLP112 + SS backplate + AL80 bailout + 0 lbs so far 3mm full wetsuit + O2ptima + AL13 + AL40 bailout + 2x2 lbs (top) Do you think dry suit + 300 underg. + O2ptima + LP27 + AL40 bailout + 2x2 lbs = ok ? Erik For the same drysuit & undergarments with the O2ptima, Steel 27's, & SS plate I use 3 Pounds of lead in each trim pocket at the top of the unit and kept the ankle weights, so overall I use about 8 pounds less lead than I did with OC. I use a 40 AL bailout on all dives & add a 40 AL of 70% for the dives 100' - 140'. but I don't vary the weights for either. I use the supplied second stage & have the QC on another second for some additional bailout & deco if it's available & needed. Haven't been in warm water yet..... Richie |

I always dive dry and in cold water with a ss Transplate and the LP 27's I sink like a rock.data: 3mm full wetsuit + AL80 + 6 lbs dry suit + 300 underg. + LP80 + SS backplate + STA + 14 lbs dry suit + 300 underg. + 2xLP112 + SS backplate + AL80 bailout + 0 lbs so far 3mm full wetsuit + O2ptima + AL13 + AL40 bailout + 2x2 lbs (top) Do you think dry suit + 300 underg. + O2ptima + LP27 + AL40 bailout + 2x2 lbs = ok ? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Aluminum 20's so since I am diving with a transpac (Nomad, really), it looks like I'll need 6 pounds or so. Maybe a couple of ankle weights and up the 2x2lbs to 2x3 lbs or so. Go to a confined water area and carry extra weight and just play. I can swim down the first few feet in a transpack and hold stay down at 10 ft and do a stop without problems. |

I started out in a pool and it's tough the figure your needs there as you are too shallow. I was way over weighted in the pool the first day of training. As soon as we hit the Quarry and got a little depth to work with I started to shed the weights. I started out with a lot more weight than I needed before settling down to the six pounds trim weight & the ankle weights I use now. The more comfortable you get with the unit the easier it is to find the right weight combination that suits you. Richie |

The reason it's hard in a pool is that most divers can't maintain min loop volumn that shallow. I have never needed any weight with the Optima and either the 27's or 13cf steel tanks. I find the unit a bit head buoyant without the total of six pounds trim weight. The ankle weights are something I've always used with my drysuits. It helps keep air out of the foot pockets and I need the additional weight to keep me from floating up the last ten or fifteen feet. With a Crushed Neoprene Drysuit & the accompanying insulated underwear I just can't manage without any weight. When I get to FL I look forward to shedding all the weight.... With only a 3 Mil suit I might be able to drop the SS backplate too. ![]() Still might need some trim weight to keep the head down.... But I can't wait to get down there and give it a try....
