Link three explains how with the scrubber monitor you can extend the usage of the scrubber in favorable conditions. Something we have been doing for ages without a monitor.
So, this was the second part of my original question that started the thread (sorry for not replying more promptly!). How do you know what "pretty safe" is when you dive in a new temperature?

Hypothetical example: you normally dive cold water but take a trip to warm water like a Red Sea liveaboard. You know your scrubber will last longer, but how much longer? Trial-and-error certainly works: ie "it worked for X hours this time so I know that's safe". However trial-and-error when you're using yourself for the test seems like a risky way to gather data.

I'm all in favor of simply knowing what my cold-water and warm-water limits are. But I don't see a way of getting that knowledge without trial-and-error....and the "error" part of that technique seems risky.

You stick to within manufacturers guide lines.

Your life insurance will probably not pay out when they find out you dived for longer than three hours on the same scrubber regardless of the water temperature. Your diving outside the recommended limits of the scrubber. Your not supposed tooo so they wont pay out.

On the other hand Get out of the water after say 3 hours on the scrubber, whip the back off the unit and feel the hot band on the scrubber with your hand. Or more importantly feel the cold band running up behind it. That will tell you how your doing.

Yes, he does seem to like it a lot. But it's one feature among many... lately he's diving an O2ptima...

Re: Optima vs Tempstick

Hi Twain,

I would go with Evolution, because their Vision electronics is awesome..!!

Tempstik also cool, but you will be fine without it. FYI, the only thing that Tempstik does, is to determine which part of the scrubber that is active currently(Filtering them CO2). It doesnt measure CO2, scrubber length etc..

Cheers,

BB
