Re: Optima vs Tempstick

Sorry for asking a question, but I was more concerned that the use of the O2 consumption calculation would be too liberal when diving in cold water. I was not looking to push scrubber duration. I do know that different durations are published for the EAC for warm vs. cold water.

Did you notice that majority of the responders above who don't like Temp-Stick have never used it ?

Re: Optima vs Tempstick

I have owned both the classic and the vision electronics, and I must say that the temp stick is a great upgrade. Although it is just one more tool, it is a very good reminder about the "approximate" life of the scrubber. That said, it is just one of several tools that should be used to monitor scrubber life. I certainly wouldn't want to go back to the classic, after having dived the vision with temp stick for the last couple of years.

Re: Optima vs Tempstick

I think that the temp stick is the factor that sets the VISION above the rest. All of the other Rebreather seem to offer the same thing in their own way (all good) but no one else give you the option of the temp stick. I know that it is just a tool in the box but the more tools the better! If the VISION was an option on other RB like the Hammerhead/Shearwater is then I could see it getting the majority of use. Just my opinion though.

Have you ever given a dog peanut butter to eat? They love the taste but it just makes them look silly. Every one has a giggle and the dog seems to like it.

Now.... have you ever tried placing peanut butter on the roof of your dog's mouth using your tongue? I don't have to know that it isn't a good idea Sure some people may like that sort of thing but it's not my scene. I like the old fashioned way

...and that's perfectly acceptable answer by any standard - except for your silly example...

Kinda like the standard "DIR answer" when being questioned about their experience: "Oh, I don't need to be hit by a bowling ball to know it hurts"...

I don't dispute the fact that someone will not like the TS feature at all.

All I was pointing out is some people will make a decision without personal experience, and state their personal opinion like it is a fact.

I wish I had thought of that analogy. Mine is silly

Re: Optima vs Tempstick

The way I see it, the TempStick is a tool, it works for what it was designed to do, and I would rather have one than not when given the choice. Alas, it loks to me like it is only feasible (if not possible) in an axial scrubber design which I happen not to use. In a way it's like a HUD, you don't need it to dive a Rebreather, but as long as it works and you use it correctly it's an item both convenient and safe.

The same of course is true for the cartridge style scrubber. Don't know if a temp sensor would work in there as I don't know how the absorbant is used up in the cartridge, a combination of both would be even better than either by itself. Tough call.
