I might just do that. I'm planning on making the move from SCR to CCR next year. Need to save up first, decide what I want. I'm in between getting a KISS or an Optima.

Great story! I'm thinking that diving with students is way more dangerous than diving solo.

What did you have to do other than rinse out the head to get the unit going again? Did you do anything special with the sensors or wiring harness? Does your harness have the little black vinyl cap covers for the molex end?

Re: Bizzare FX feature?

On the day I did nothing else but drain the caustic sludge and put in a fresh cartridge. At home I pulled it all apart and washed everthing I dared with an O2 compatible degreaser dryed it off and fired it up again. And yes mine does have the black caps.

Mark's point is well taken re stutents and solo. Sometimes I wonder as well .
John, why wash out with degreaser vs plain fresh water?
Having tried but never experienced a full loop flood, I did flood the cannister and eac intentionally while experimenting on the validity of the eac's reputation.
I have to admit that in my case, there was no caustic cocktail or even traces of it.
I simply washed everything out with fresh warm water, I did add a little vinegar, dried the hareness and cells with a hair dryer (not too hot), and left it all to dry.
A couple days later I dove the Optima, all was normal.

Yep, I deliberately did a full flood too, just to prove it to myself.... your experience mirrors my own, even the sensors were fine... But I did mine in pool water... I had expected in salt water there would be an all together different experience, but at least in the case of Chucky05 apparently not...

Tom and I did it twice on the same dive in his pool with two of the first three units and did not have any problems other than the dogs trying to get to us.

Yep, another feature.... I thought he only turned the dogs loose on
instructors and IT's (I've got a fin with one bite that was clean through) but Tom did the dogs stress test on Lisa too...

so we can definately say the O2ptima is 'Rottweiler Resistant'

Re: Bizzare FX feature?

Hi Cornel,
I just wanted to get rid of the 'white crap' and the degreaser did it where as fresh water did not.
Regards,
John

Thanks John. Interesting though, cause when I volontarely flooded my loop, there was no residue from the EAC.
Mind you I flooded it for only a few minutes, so perhaps that's where the diffference is.

Re: Bizzare FX feature?

My unit (that I dive alot) gradually builds up 'white crap' as well, particularly when it's allowed to dry for a few days... It might be organic stuff coming from me, and things that grow... I think the stuff from the cartridge just made it visible... If you think about it in that light, I suspect he was right on target to use a degreaser....
