![]() ![]() ![]() | Storing partially used Sorb. I was asked today to join a BBQ and dive at the local spot. There’s not much to see or do but it’s a great place to get wet, train, and configure equipment, in addition to a BBQ with a couple of buddies. Being new to my rebreather I thought that this would be a great opportunity to get more time on my unit and iron out some minor issues. The problem is, if I join this dive today I might not get out again for several days. Does this mean that my slightly used sorb would need to be disposed? It seems like a waste. During my training course we were taught to seal our scrubber baskets in plastic so that we could use the remaining time the next day. I don’t recall if I was ever told how long you could store the sorb before it was unsafe. My question is two fold. How do you store your partially used sorb and how long would you store it before deciding to dispose of it. Westwinds.

There is a thread about CO2 where one of the main points is that is difficult to know when you have a hit or a spike of CO2. This is a good reason not to store the sorb too long.Being new to my rebreather I thought that this would be a great opportunity to get more time on my unit and iron out some minor issues. With the Ouroboros I leave in the canister, I don't even dissassemble the unit, for max 24 hours. Probably it can stay longer but my life will not change for such amount of "wasted" money for sure it could change for a CO2 hit! Best Nad

| Custom Title Allowed! ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Me normally take it out of unit, until the electronics dries and then back in the unit and seal unit. I kept sofno for a month or so will no ill effects. But at the end I am new to this, so do same with caution!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Same feeling as stefan, I do keep sof for a good 3 weeks to a month without any problem. Diving mainly at the week-end I tend to put 3 times 1 hour with 1 to 2 weeks between dives. Have done that for the last 3 years and I am still around. Obviously I apply this to the cool dives 40m max, for deeper I always use a fresh batch.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have been teached just leave the canister with the sorb on a shelf to dry. No bagging or anything like that. I usually get the hours done in a week or two. I think that the sorb can`t dry too much if the inner canister is closed. There can`t be too much air going through the sorb. And isn`t the sorbs nominal moisture captured in the grain so that it is actually quite hard to dry it? JH Finland |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Maybe I'm the only one so lucky to have the possibility to dive everyday at whatever time I wish. That's why I don't have the problem to store sorb for any time longer than 20 hours, however I think I will follow my previous opinion in case of... Nad

No bagging or anything like that. I usually get the hours done in a week or two. Do you leave the rebreather completely assembled? Then the amount of CO2 is obviously limited to the loop content. But just leaving the Inspirations bucket open can not possibly be a good idea. That's like leaving the lid off the scrubber pail.It was certainly hammered into us when at the very beginning that said pail needs to be sealed to keep the absorbant usable, and that double bag and tag is the way to go for temporary storage (more than 24 hrs - less than that the rig stays assembled). The reason for double bagging is to reduce the chance of a leak in a single bag.
