Where do you store your oxygen cylinders at home.

I'm just starting out on the ccr route. Normally I store my air cylinders in my study but my wife won't have oxygen cylinders in the house because of the fire risk and is adamant that our house insurance will be effected if I keep such dangerous stuff lying about. Are there any UK regulations about storage of O2 cylinders in the domestic environment? Where does everyone else store their cylinders?

In the garage currently used to be in the basement of my parents place, hardly anymore dangerous than the likes of camping Gaz or propane heaters etc

I would actually say a lower risk, those other types of cylinders would rupture much quicker should they be exposed to fire, steel 2 cylinders need alot of heat to fail..

remember oxygen is not flamible, its just feeds a fire...

Yep. Garage for me.

Consider that plenty of people who smoke(d) have these things (O2 cylinders) all over the place in their homes. Occasionally someone has a bad experience, but it is often because they are still smoking - with the O2 in use!

Well, here in the UK, I couldn't evn get specialist house insurance once they heard that I wanted to store O2 / bleand - even thought I have a degree in chemistry and am a qualified gas blender ;-( So the issues with house insurance are real, at least in the UK. Solution for me was to store them in a trailer. this worked better than a garage for me because I could pick up / transport cylinders to a dive site, and as car insurance DOESN'T cover contents, they don care what you have in the trailer ;-)
Noticed my DAN insurance covers me when I'm mixing...

I store mine in the garage here in the US and I keep gas canisters in a small storage shed in the backyard.

Ask your insurace company how much more insurance would be if you had 6 portable medical O2 cylinders stored there because your mother has Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and needs it to breathe. If your not blending, your storing less gas than that and probably doing it safer than someone using medical O2.

You'd be amazed at how many tanks some of them have and how they store them, as a firefighter/paramedic I get to see all kinds of scary storage...right next to the gas cans, next to a water heater not elevated off the ground, with an ashtray next to that.

Yep garage for me to. Its the safest place and its alarmed, have a wet and dry area.... We got it built just for dive gear, the cars r in the driveway
