ebay scam? need help

hi i am new to the rebreather world and i am looking to buy a rebreather off ebay ( my first one ) and every one say get the serial number to check with the great makers, there is i guy called paul bell from north wales (bodfari denbigshire) selling a inspiration ebay number 170029517805 , but will not give me the serial number , any one know him and can tell me why he would hold it back? he say it only 2 1/2 year old , so please help is he trying sam/con me in to a heep of rubish ( if paul bell from wales see this no afence take )

If he is honest he will give you the serial nr, i see no reason to not if it´s a legit unit...

There is more units out there för sale, have you looked in the Rebreather World sales forum?

The other option is if you have already completed your course is to email Nicky at AP and she'll add you to the mailing list, ?3 for sale in the last couple of days on there. I was planning on getting my unit this way but actually got it via RBworld. They are out there if you give it a few days just don't want it today.

Another way is tapping into the local Rebreather community, got a friend who got his via word of mouth

Assessing the veracity of Ebay auctions is always difficult.

His feedback is good but limited. He doesn't seem to have sold anything on Ebay before and the only item he has bought that I could check was a diving item (DSMB).

The "payment by personal cheque only" would put me off. Not a lot of comeback for you if it goes awry. It's possible that he's genuine. Equally he could be a scammer who has ripped off some poor bloke's ID.

The big positive is that there's a phone number to ring. I'd give him a call. He might just be reticent to give out the serial number because he's wary of people ripping off his pictures and scamming his auction. You could also ask him if he's a Rebreather World member (might well be), or knows any members who'll vouch for the unit.

Otherwise see if he'll let you go and inspect the unit. If he says no after you explain your doubts you'd feel better about not buying this unit.

Regardless, don't stress. There's loads of Classics for sale, and it's a buyer's market.

well guy thanks for all the help just got a email from the the guy in wales with a serial number is it right will have wait and see?

"hi heres the details you need handsets serviced 2 weeks ago by myself 6 new magnets fitted had full service sept last year both first stages were done and solenoid was serviced and 3 cells were replaced i bought the unit from my mod 1 instructor at the end of sept last year it was his own unit but he had just bought an evolution so it was ideal for me idid not have to wait at least 6-9 months on ap divings waiting list for a new unit . anyway my instructor was fanatical about cleaning and maintaince which as you will agree is only a good thing with a unit cos your life relys on the unit functioning perfectly .i regularly check all the o rings hoses etc and always use o2 grease on every seal after all i have been doing regular deep dives on this unit down to an exess of 100m and it has never missed a beat (thank god)the serial number is 3L226408 and is registered to me with ap diving. ihope this info is of use to you anymore questions please contact me again cheers paul"


It look like it may be genuine, but if I was you I would check out the rebreather's on this site.
