Re: Determining Break Thru

Ultimately, it may be difficult for you to judge that a break through has taken place while under water. However, at the point where you start experiencing symptoms of high CO2 content - shortness of breath, headache, drowsiness, slowed motor skills, and an all around feeling that something is absolutely wrong, time to bail out to OC! You probably have break through! No reason to experience it, if you follow the recomended guidlines for scubber length of use, and you pack your canister correctly. There are no guarantees, but most CCR divers safely avoid it by following outlined procedures.

Almost an understatement, there...

While testing the Stingray scrubber for cold-water duration, I first noticed that I was breathing hard even though my work level was quite low. Just a minute or two after that, I had an overwhelming feeling of "I've GOT to get out of here!!!". It came on fast, and didn't go away for several minutes after bailing out to Open Circuit.

Best to first follow manufacturer's recommendations, and second to remember "If something feels wrong, it is wrong", and bail out.

cheers...
