So many choices

So here we go again with another Q's.
I never realized there were so many rebreather styles. I was told to find one that suites the type of diving I want to do. I want to dive wreck as well as cave i was thinking about getting the Meg then I read about shaws mk15.5 and thought that is the one. Then i read about the Ourborous. How do you now which is the one? Then also computers I hear some like this some like that but as a newbie I really dont want to put my life or others in jeapordy cause i didnt know that the hammehead (from personal gatherings) is as reliable as others and i just bought it thinking it was cool. So many decisions to make...errrr
ANyways dont want to start ah mine is better then yours tread just dont want to spend $10,000 and find out it suxs

Thanks for all the help...

Since the Mk 15.5 hasn't been made in years you are unlikely to even find a used one you should probably look at a mainstream production Rebreather. As a meg owner I am of course biased. There are as many reason why people like their unit as there are divers but I think you will not find a more robust, well built piece of dive gear anywhere than what ISC makes with the Megalodon.
As far as your comment about buying the wrong unit will jeopardize another diver I would hope you were kidding.

Re: So many choices

If you get the chance to go to an Advanced Diver Magazine rebreather demo day, that is a great way to see (and even dive) one against the other. That helped me in making my final decision.

Re: So many choices

What I ment by jeapordizing another diver was that if I get into trouble and another diver has to help dont want him to put self in harms way to help save what ever. I realize that I will be tought alot in class but snafu daoes accur at least I have been reading alot about it in the forums. Sorry if I worded it improperly.

Re: So many choices

I understood what you meant

Like ScubaDadMaimi said the best way to do the research and then do some more and try them all out if you can before you buy the unit. Even then you probably wont know until you've made several dives on several different units...in the end they ALL have their ups and downs and you'll end up playing with them to get them to suit your personal needs. w/ RBs there is no One Size fits all

Re: So many choices

If you have you heart set on a MK 15.5, then check with Colin Colkan in Australia. I saw his contact information on another thread today and would try to provide the link, but I am connected via a very slow dial-up. If you have trouble finding, PM me and I will provide his contact information.

Happy Shopping

Ah, some neutral, unbiased wisdom. I knew that there would be some in here somewhere. You deserve a bit of green for that IMHO.

Re: So many choices

You could also come to the next rebreather / wreck in Dominican Republic in April. There will be many rebreather's there and they will have a pool day where you can put one on any test it out. These are the manufacture's and or the people that represent the different types of rebreathers. Check the write up in the forums. Also there is rebreather week in the Cayman Island I believe in May, another great place to see and talk with the people that represent rebreathers, computers, and many more products. .... I love my Copis Mini Meg
