![]() | What is the procedure you fallow for OC bail out. I'm sure this will be covered by my Mod1 instructor but I'm wandering how others deal with the Deployment of either, OC bail out for sanity checks or due to complete system failure, flood ec. or decompression stage bottles......Do you have the the regulators for stage/ bailout bottles pre charged ? Do you use a necklace, do you leave the bailout on for quicker access? ![]() |

But from my newbie (just qualified) perspective:- if the gas is turned on and it's ready to use it's bailout. If it's presurised but turned off it's a stage (not intended for use at that depth). I dive a PRISM and can take a sanity breath from the adv, if that does not work I will then bail out . I leave my stage bottle on you will hear any leaks so dont worry. Weather boat diving or land diving I always practice skills before leaving water. I over worked myself last dive crushed and held my lungs compressed did an adv sanity breath and after two breath cycles I was fine. In 130' I used a 1000psi with those two breaths so dive was over. If I was not comfortable in my skills it could have been an issue so no matter what protocall your taught practice practice practice. good luck and enjoy the class it is like your first OW dive you will always remember it ![]()

No offboard dil?For me, cylinders are managed throughout the dive. Regs are pressurised and checked on the boat, then on decent, the one I'm going to grab is left turned on once I hit the bottom and all are checked frequently. Sometimes I'm running suit inflation off one so that one is obviously on if thats the case. My response to pretty much any issue is flush, evaluate, bail if required, return to loop, SCR if neccesary. I've found this adequate for my diving to date. Cheers |

I leave my bailout on and ready to go, I know some people leave it off but pressurised argueing that this will avoid losing your bailout due to a leak. I had an experience a few months ago when I went to turn on my bailout on the boat (rental cylinder), and the knob just rotated on the valve spindle. The square hole in the plastic knob had rounded off to the point it wouldn't grip the valve spindle. Had that happened at depth and bailout was needed things could have been a little difficult! Neil

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: What is the procedure you fallow for OC bail out. I used to cycle my BO on and off during the dive but found that I would still get H2O in the regulator so I now run it on all the time and added a flow stop to the second stage. This gives me the best of both worlds but don't forget to put in a OPV on your first stage. Rob |

| CK+Shearwater ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: What is the procedure you fallow for OC bail out. No one is going to admit it but.... OC Bailout Procedure 1. Panic 2. Switch BOV to OC in relief 3. Panic 4. retune Paragon BOV reg to allow breathing (AKA- freeflow) 5. Panic 6. Spit out water 7. Panic 8. Grab OC reg on bail-out stage 9. Spit out BOV in disgust 10. Gulp water from Bail-out reg 11. Panic 12. turn Bail-out tank on 13. Gulp more water from bail-out reg 14. Panic 15. Turn Bail-out tank on! (Due to having just turned it off not realising reg just had water in it and tank was already on.) 16. Breath 17. Look at Computer and realise that although the above felt like 12 minutes, it only took 12 seconds. Seriously, I keep my bailout stage regs pressurised but off, I have the BOV to last the one or two breaths it takes to retrieve and open the full bailout reg. I crack them open and purge briefly after jumping in, on the line, then again on the bottom then lastly before ascending. BEN
