The New guy...

Hello there from sunny (well not right now) southern California. I'm just attempting to move into rebreathers after 15+ years of diving. Looking at the O2ptima. I'll probably be picking one up in a week or two so here we go. Glad to be here, ready to absorb the knowledge.

Welcome onboard. Good to have you. I haven't dove one (yet) but I saw a bunch of optimas at Protec in Playa del Carmen this year and I thought they looked pretty cool. The owners were taking their training at the time and they were pretty happy with them.

Re: The New guy...

welcome aboard!! I think you'll like it here. there are lots of very knowledgable folks here to help you make the transition. I tried out the optima during a pool session and there is definitely something to be said for it. the harness stood out, you get the advantage of the years of D&R that diverite has put into the harness...the most comfortable of all the rebreathers i've tried on. It felt well balanced in the water too. i would still like to see them come out with a granular adapter though. welcome to the silent world!! be careful, it's habbit forming.

Re: The New guy...

Thanks for the welcome. I got the chance to dive the Inspiration in the pool with Jeff Bozanic last month while my instructor was doing his optima class with Jeff. My friend/ mentor/instructor is a dealer for the optima. It seems very easy to maintain and very well engineered, the only thing I wasnt to keen on was the way the counter lungs attach at the bottom. I will probably sew in a set of male/female quick releases attacing it to the waist belt instead of the strap system they use. I'm really looking forward to this. Of course I'll probably have to sell all my open circuit gear to be able to afford it!
