Inspiration advice needed.

I am looking at changing from OC to a rebreather, probably a second hand Inspiration.

I would like some advice on what to look for exactly, what to pay and what options to look for?

There is one on ebay at the moment that was also listed last week and received no bids, I'm sure most of you have seen it but it's here anyway;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/API-Inspiratio...QQcmdZViewItem

It says it is large wing an harness what size would this fit?, or should i say I'm 5.7'' and 11 stone will this be too large. What would be the ideal size? Also what are the additional patches for, would you rig them up from say two stages?

If so is this something to look at getting fitted?

Also it says that there is a 4th cell fitted is this read to go by the looks of things or will it need further modification?

Also is it worth fitting the VR3, i know some people are not happy with them but i am, never had a problem with it.

Sorry for so many questions all at once!

The ideal size for you would be medium, the patches are for connecting off boad gas addition valves and therefore allowing you use external dilluent sources.

If so is this something to look at getting fitted?

Only if you are going to need different dilluent sources for deep diving on trimix etc.

Also it says that there is a 4th cell fitted is this read to go by the looks of things or will it need further modification?

Only a VR3 that that is enabled to use this and a cable, you may also nee a cell

Also is it worth fitting the VR3, i know some people are not happy with them but i am, never had a problem with it.

The VR3 is not fitted as such, depending on the type off fitment the cell is either inside or out the head. They newer way of doing things is to put the cell inside the head with an extended cell holder and fischer connector. This makes the calibration easier as all the cells are in the same environment. The problems are usually associated with calibration. In short it can not hurt to have an extra monitor if it is a given.

As with any high value item on Ebay buyer beware.Get the serial numbers and check with APD in Cornwall. This forum has a lot of advise on this and scams are usually spotted by the eagle eyed mob here abouts!

If it needs a service, find out the cost as this can add to the ready to dive price.

Re: Inspiration advice needed.

Thanks Mike, i would get it serviced anyway but am unsure how much it costs?

It does not look like a scam but i would only pay cash on collection anyway.
There is a serial number and i will contact AP if this seems like a resonable deal and will fit me.

Is it possible to change the wing an harness or is it worth waiting for a different unit?

Thanks
Ivon

Re: Inspiration advice needed.

My advice would be to look at the previous post, this one looks good and comes from an Rebreather World member.

It fits and has all the necessary toys. The price looks OK and i am sure you can negotiate!

Re: Inspiration advice needed.

All the usual,

Condition (handsets etc), use, servicing, these are the important things. Spares are also worth having if they are in the deal, Scrim kits etc. Make sure that it holds positive and negative tests and that this can be demonstrated also ensure the scrubber canister is in good condition (Round) as this is critical to the correct function of the seals. If any part of this has been abused walk away as it is about £375.00 to replace these components, they are sold as a complete unit because they are manufactured as matching items, internal and external canisters.

Most Rebreather owners love and cherish their kit as it is life preserving, you can tell a lot about the kit by talking to the owner. When i bought mine the guy was an expedition diver so it came with ten of everything and no expense was spared on maintainance with APD. They recommended the unit to a friend who subsequently bought a new one.

Leaving this one to me!

Re: Inspiration advice needed.

Check the electronics so they work. Remove the black plastic covers of the handsets and check for moisture on the inside. When the display is lit you can press with a finger on the display and check for "watereffects". Also check for cracks in the handsets. You should also make sure the unit can perform a positive/negative test.

The best you can do is to bring a YBOD-diver with you and let him/here check the unit and if possible do a testdive.

Judging by your post, it's probably best if you can get a qualified instructor to have a look at any unit for you before you buy. He may even know of some units up for grabs that he knows some of if not all of it's history.

Re: Inspiration advice needed.

Hey buddy,

I've a Inspiration (this is my personal unit) with the whole head just serviced at AP Valves. They replaced both handsets and did full maintainance, the electronics still on the same plastic like came from the factory.
I'm asking for 5.250 U$
The only problem is the unit is here in Mexico.
If you have any question send me a pm.
Cheers,
