Question Bob Howell ADV

Hope this is in the correct place.....
I bought a 2nd hand Inspo Classic with a Bob Howell ADV on it, it does not hold negative & I have worked out that the leak is definitely coming from the ADV.

My question is: how do you take the thing apart and check/repair it?
I have searched the internet and can't find anything useful.
Can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Re: Bob Howell ADV

If I remember correctly the top simply screws off exposing the diaphram etc..

From that point on it was pretty straight forward. Was using a bob adv until the AP one came out.

Dive Safe...

Re: Bob Howell ADV

Am I understanding you correctly? Do AP have an OC/CC DSV?

No you are not. NOT OC/DSV (BOV) but ADV.
Bob did both, but he wouldn't return my emails to get a dolphin BOV.

I have one. It does hold negative but not hugely long. Also doing a negative check is a bit mean to the diaphragm so I only make a simple check.
Do you have a flow stop? That makes it much easier to get a negative. If not you have to drain the DIL first stage.

The top plate unscrews. Under this is the diaphragm. The reg mechanism is a solid lump that is held in by the nut. It just bolts through the wall of the ADV. The works come from an Aqualung LPO (a cheapy slimline octopus reg not actually sold in the UK).

Re: Bob Howell ADV

Am I right in thinking the part that unscrews is the circular part holding the 'purge' button.

Is it just a matter of 'gripping' the ring with molegrips and turning it.............

ARGH!!!!!
It's only a bit of plastic.

How about palm of the hand flat on it and turn on friction.
We are talking about the same thing aren't we?

That's the chappie. The part with the 'nike' logo holes is soft an dthe ring around it is hard. It's that ring that I assume needs to turn.

The diaphram cover screws off easily..

You need to determine where the leak is comming from.. put a cutoff on the adv, and see if gas is comming from the first stage.. if not the most likely source is that the diaphram is being stretched a bit too far and its making a gap to where the cover holds it down (into the groove).. (this is the most likely source).. In fact its usually right at the point where the gas valve is installed..

I use this type of adv as well, What I decided to do was to put a bead of silicon sealent around the outside of the diaphram, this seals it to the adv and you can hold a real good negative test regardless of how much of a vacuum you try and pull..
